I am accepting new individuals, couples, & families. I am a member of PsyPact, which allows me to do telehealth in most states (great for college students, people who travel for work, etc). I have an interest in helping young adults and adults through difficult life transitions and working through the constantly changing ways that we identify and see ourselves as it relates to parenthood, relationships, health, and work, among other things. I also specialize in working with college students and athletes. I help people figure out who they want to be, which might be different from who others think they "should" be.

Trained in short and long-term therapy, I am flexible with your goals. I help people find new solutions to on-going problems in relationships, in work, or creativity, and in navigating life transitions. My ideal client is a person who is open to change and is willing to confront what hasn't been working so that life can improve. Times of transition often teach us the most, including times of painful change. I work to help others imagine a future that makes sense. I work with adults of all ages, and I can be flexible with scheduling and fees. Note: I practice in two locations - NYC & Madison CT.

"Relax as it is."-Pema Chodron. It's a beautifully simple phrase yet it requires two powerful features: letting go and acceptance. Our life shapes the stories we tell ourselves and so often these stories foster feelings of anxiety, sadness, frustration, anger and blame (of ourselves and of those close to us). The changes that life always bestow on us are often unwelcome triggers causing us to notice how these ways of thinking can negatively impact our overall well-being. By taking the opportunity to look at ourselves in an honest and gentle way we create new pathways to accept and let go.

My primary aim is to offer an authentic space to form a relationship and explore patterns that may be occurring in your life. We'll work together to grow an open-minded curiosity about your experience and build insight in the process. Part of our work will involve leveraging this insight into new, more effective ways of managing distress. I particularly enjoy working with clients who are seeking to learn more about themselves and would like some assistance processing difficult emotions, events, and/or relationships.

I specialize in working with perinatal women and families. The period of matrescence, when a woman transitions into motherhood, can be a pivotal time in one's life. Motherhood and family life come filled with both incredible joys and tremendous difficulties. Navigating these times of transition with hope, trust, confidence, grace and a regulated nervous system can be a life changing pursuit, and one that all women, mothers and families deserve. Parenting is not without its challenges at any age, but it is possible to foster more peaceful, effective, and joyful family dynamics with the proper support.

Intimate relationships are fluid and complex. Conflict does not mean you are incompatible. It is a signal that you should start paying more attention to the relationship. Problems do not magically go away! Conflict can feel like a crisis, but can be an opportunity for growth and change. It does takes courage to facing what is in front of you, no longer being willing to live with pain, or loneliness. After 45 years experience and years of post graduate training in couples work I can help shift the dynamic and allow you to each move forward. If your partner is unwilling, contact me independently. It is the first step toward changing.

Have you finished other therapies (by 'graduating,' leaving, or 'failing out'), without lasting change? Have you never felt safe to remove your masks even in therapy, or you can't tell the difference between you and the masks? Have you struggled to experience another person truly understanding you, or even genuinely making the effort? These experiences may involve questions about sense of self and identity (including personality), which many therapies do not meaningfully understand or address. They often come out as depression, anxiety, and relationship concerns, but with a different root cause. And missing the cause keeps us stuck.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
