My goal is to bring out the best version of you, and as a result, help you feel amazing. During our sessions, we will work together to get to the root of the issue. We will also work on improving your current state of mind. This process will make you excited about the future and provide you with a more positive outlook on life. I specialize in working with individuals and couples struggling with anxiety , depression or trauma that often accompanies major life transitions (launching to adulthood, birth of a baby, career shifts, loss of a loved one, loss of a relationship/divorce, health crisis). Life transitions impact our identity, our relationships and our sense of Self, often in ways we don’t expect. If a life event feels overwhelming or is keeping you stuck in patterns of thinking/behaving that no longer serve you, let's talk. EMAIL inquiries are the most efficient way to reach me.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist I understand the unique challenges we sometimes face as we encounter relational issues, loss, trauma, anxiety , and depression. I will guide you through the storms, support you when you are falling apart, and challenge you when it’s time to take a step forward. Instead of pushing away from the “hard things”, it is important to put in the hard work, grow, and thrive in life. It is my honor to be a part of your healing journey. I use a variety of approaches and techniques to teach you new skills, explore new possibilities, build resilience, and facilitate connection.

I work with individuals and couples in a safe, non-judgmental place; we will explore what's underneath the anxiety or depression.
Do you have a running dialogue in your head. Ever notice how the voice talks about things you “should” be doing, opportunities missed or failures, but when talking about accomplishments or positive qualities, crickets. Together, we will work to change the dialogue and begin to be kind to yourself. When you talk to your partner do you hear carnival music because it feels as if you’re in a funhouse (without the fun). Talking gets you nowhere as old stuff comes into the conversation. “How about the time you did.” It’s beyond frustrating and exhausting.

Judy Ulrich offers individual, marital and family psychotherapy to help clients to better meet the challenges of their lives. She hopes they will find and enhance individual strengths and resources, heal old hurts and “baggage”, develop potentials and build satisfying relationships. Building on her original psychodynamic training and work with children and adolescents, she has incorporated learning from family therapy and newer therapies and research, including EMDR, into her work. In recent years, she has worked particularly with adults dealing with serious illness, grief and childhood trauma and with couples seeking to improve their marriages.

Seeking change, making meaning, discovering a new path: these are just some of the motivators for pursuing support and making change in our lives. Together, we can take those first steps down the path that you are hoping to find your way down, despite whatever barriers may already exist that prevent you from taking those steps on your own. If you or your adolescent are in need of support, we can work together to find the best course of treatment, goals, and together look forward towards a more positive future.

I work with individuals that struggle with anxiety , depression, trauma, grief and other challenges that arise through out life.
Are you feeling stuck, defeated, and struggling to manage your or your child's emotions? It can be hard just to make it through the day. I know life is really hard and we are all facing challenging times. Taking that first step to ask for help can be difficult, you are not alone. I think everyone would be surprised at actually how many of us need and can use a little extra support, whether it be for yourself or your child. You don't have to continue to feel this way.

By improving our understanding of our strengths, our values, and our fears , we are able to learn new ways to respond to challenges that we encounter.
***In-Person and Evening appointments available*** We all experience times in our lives when we need someone to talk to, someone to listen, someone to help us see things from a different perspective. Whether it’s times of sadness, feeling overwhelmed, or simply finding ourselves at a crossroads, these situations can leave us feeling uncertain about how to move forward successfully in life. For more than fifteen years, I have been helping people to change their lives by increasing their understanding of themselves and the people around them.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
