In working with me, my hope is that you will feel cared for, seen and understood. My style is warm and empathetic, but I am also very direct and solution-focused. My initial career in the theatre, ignited my interest in what both motivates and challenges us as human beings. Personal loss of great magnitude inspired a new career path for me, helping others navigate change, life transitions, and move toward personal growth and satisfaction in their lives. I love when clients gain self-awareness, improve their interpersonal relationships, reduce or eliminate stress and anxiety, and identify and actualize their goals.

I use mindfulness & Internal Family Systems therapy to help clients resolve their underlying trauma and grief issues that get in the way of having fulfilling lives and relationships. I combine warmth and compassionate listening with teaching clients skills to learn to better manage their feelings, including anxiety and depression, while using breathing, body-centered, and other spiritual principles to help clients heal. Clients will learn to heal themselves and build more satisfying relationships and futures for themselves and their families. The techniques I use apply well to both children and adults to help clients deal with adverse behaviors and addictions.

Specializing in sexual and physical abuse, I have come to know, through a loving, therapeutic relationship we can and do heal! Trauma work is meeting grief where it impacts us today, creating a holding environment to explore safely our thoughts and feelings.
"You are doing the very best you can!" We enter adulthood with a lifetime of experiences-both positive and negative. Is today feeling like a replay of past trauma, relationships struggling, parenting making you feel like a failure, while the voice in your head says, "I am not enough?" My practice is based on the beliefs, “it is never too late” and “we each have infinite worth.” The quality of our early relationship with our caregivers, repeats without our awareness. Our past need not define our present. You are worthy of finding comfort within a secure, therapeutic relationship. Together we can explore and discover healing.

Clarity and understanding begins with a conversation... It is natural for us all to experience periodic states of self-doubt, confusion, and aimlessness, to feel varying intensities of anxiety, fear, frustration, guilt, sadness, grief , outrage, and often some indescribable feelings. Efforts to ignore or suppress these states over time tends to lead to more discomfort and suffering. When we lose our direction or these feelings become overwhelming, it may be helpful to talk to a therapist.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
