Although my license is in addiction my course work in my masters education was primarily family therapy and professional counseling.
My approach is eclectic. I join you in the road to recovery. I consider myself culturally competent, trauma informed and gender sensitive. Therapy like most professions continue to evolve, therefore, I actively seek ways to improve the delivery of evidence based practices that I use. I strongly believe that each experience with clients I serve is unique and rewarding. My hope is to help clients begin the journey of achieving a life worth living.

I have an innate ability to meet others where they are and to help those who struggle with addiction to finally break free and live a life they are proud of.
I know what it is like to live in a psychological prison, trying to "stay strong" while repeating the narrative "I'm ok!". You don't have to go on this journey alone. The common thread amongst all clientele is a desire for positive change. At times one may need a helping hand to guide them on their journey in a therapeutic, environment. Seeking guidance is a courageous first step to wholeness and lasting change. Seeking therapy does not mean that you are weak or "crazy"; it means you have decided to address your concerns with non-biased professional help. It's ok to find someone to help you cope with the stressors of life!

I enjoy finding ways to help my clients learn to support themselves and heal issues that have impacted their ability to feel happy and grounded. Teaching clients to find their own inner strength enables them to cope with many issues that have prevented them from growing and realizing their full potential. Depression, anxiety, alcoholism/drug addiction , and post traumatic stress disorder are just a few of the issues that can be managed, allowing clients to feel unburdened and free to live their lives.

I have been fortunate to work with individuals, couples and families dealing with a range of issues including, addiction , mental illness, traumatic events and difficult life transitions.
I believe that we all need support, however at times we may need a different type of support than what those close to us can and/or are able to provide. Reaching out and asking for help takes a significant amount of strength and courage, something I not only recognize, but respect in all aspects of my practice. Whether you are going through a difficult life experience or are dealing with something that is more long-standing and chronic, I am committed to working with you to reach your personal goals.

I provide individual, couples, and groups with addiction -focused treatment.
I understand that 'alcohol and other drugs'...(cocaine, marijuana, opiates/painkillers, etc.) as well as relationships, money, food, work, technology, sex, etc. are merely dysfunctional band-aids to avoid the pain of inner woundedness. My therapeutic approach offers a deeper awareness of symptomatic addictions by providing the client with the 'space' and permission to explore the self-damage from these harmful 'toxins' and then learn the practice of thought and feeling detoxification. I can support my clients with 20+ years of relapse prevention therapy and techniques to replace the obsessive thinking with positive and self-affirming behaviors.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason, “interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
