My clinical practice draws from extensive training in psychotherapy that integrates a psychodynamic perspective with therapeutic interventions that match the unique needs of a client. The range of interpersonal and skill-based interventions includes an understanding of
family
, culture, and gender specific influences on the current issues or concerns. The use of mindfulness principles and skills provides an added support to clients for strengthening their ability to better manage stress and for overall well-being. In over two decades as a psychotherapist I have consistently found that an integrative approach is most effective for promoting the positive outcomes that my clients are seeking.

Working with me, you’ll get personalized, solutions-focused treatment that is specific to your
family
and your life.
What if you could "end" your marriage as it is... but create a new one, with each other? Maybe you’ve been putting off therapy for a while, or perhaps you’ve tried it in the past, only to find the same issues resurfacing a few months later. I don’t blame you – this is hard work. Traditional couples and
family therapy
can take years, but you need help NOW. With over 25 years of experience, I help couples and families quickly identify the root causes of their issues so that they can move forward with confidence and change their lives – now, and for good. My goal: to get you off the couch and back to your life as quickly as possible.

I believe that each of us has something to learn from our past; however, the first step toward becoming the best we can be is to look at and learn from our past, but not live there. Seeking therapy is a statement of strength and belief that you, your
family
, and your relationships are of significant value. Some people seek therapy when in crisis. Many others, who are already doing well in life, seek therapy to prompt improvement or provide objective feedback to help them move forward.

As a licensed marriage and

, I will look at how you are shaped by your
family
and our culture and how this impacts the way you relate to others.
Nautilus Counseling takes its name from the chambered ocean creature. A nautilus builds a new shell chamber for itself when the current one no longer works and is uncomfortable, allowing the nautilus to grow as it should. Discomfort inspires change and growth for the nautilus and for us too. Are you ready for change? If you are, I am excited to support you in making that change. Together, we will look at what in your life is creating discomfort for you, what is contributing to that feeling, and how to help you change and grow towards a place that feels right for you.

I have been in private practice for 34 years in the capacity of
family therapist
and clinical director at two residential facilities. I do not believe in long term therapy, and on occasion, clients will come back for a "tune-up." I am direct, I will give you feedback, (not tell you what to do) and be very supportive at the same time.
Family
therapists, believe that behaviors get passed down from generation to generation. We would explore your "
family
of origin" and sort out what behaviors are working for you and what needs to change. If YOU do the work, You WILL get better!

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
