Areas of specialty : 12-step recovery, conflict resolution, substance abuse , parenting issues, couples issues, sexual identity, and many more.
I have been in private practice for 34 years in the capacity of family therapist and clinical director at two residential facilities. I do not believe in long term therapy, and on occasion, clients will come back for a "tune-up." I am direct, I will give you feedback, (not tell you what to do) and be very supportive at the same time. Family therapists, believe that behaviors get passed down from generation to generation. We would explore your "family of origin" and sort out what behaviors are working for you and what needs to change. If YOU do the work, You WILL get better!

Balance, peacefulness, laughter. Most of us would like to be able to maintain a life filled without stress, great jobs, and healthy relationships. We know that life can be challenging and difficult at times and my concept of therapy is to help people to focus on themselves and learn strategies to find happiness and productivity. One of the most significant aspects of therapy is the therapeutic relationship and people need to feel comfortable, safe, respected and listened to. * I have been a licensed clinical social worker for over twenty years in private practice, schools ,clinics, hospitals and as a coordinator of a family violence program. .

I am holistically oriented and work extensively with adults in transition and healing trauma, relationship issues, narcissistic abuse recovery; serious illness; caretaking, codependence; death and dying; grief and loss.
Counseling facilitates discovery and mastery of your inner resources. Spend less time on what you perceive as "wrong" and more time determining your true desires and manifesting them. View problems as opportunities to release limitations, to grow and to experience more joy. Clarify your true desires; learn that you are a powerful creator - in thought, word and deed. Recognize the guidance communicated by your emotions; focus on what is wanted now; release negative thoughts, images and bio-energetic blocks; allow more joy and good into your life; resolve trauma; manage stress and balance health by attending to body, mind and spirit.

I believe that each of us already possesses the ability to live a happy and fulfilling life. With greater self-understanding, we can discover and break through barriers that hold us back, find new perspectives, and achieve new goals. I work with people who are experiencing specific challenges--such as trauma or relationship issues--as well as those who suffer from anxiety, depression, feel "stuck in a rut" or are simply interested in exploring new ways to find more fulfillment in their lives. Whatever your goal, we can work together to achieve balance and lasting change.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
