relationship
difficulties or the pain of infidelity, and/or mood disorders.
*Currently not taking new clients* Choosing a therapist can seem overwhelming. Deciding who to share your story with requires an investment of your time, energy and finances. My twenty years of experience in the therapy field has helped me to connect with people in a safe and supportive environment to tackle the obstacles life sometimes throws our way. We all can get off track or lose sight of our hopes and goals for the future. Finding the right support during these times is crucial to navigating our way back to the people we love and the life we want for ourselves.

Sometimes
couples
, friends, and families need support during the transitions that occur naturally as we grow and to cope with the stressors that present challenges as we move through life.
Nautilus Counseling takes its name from the chambered ocean creature. A nautilus builds a new shell chamber for itself when the current one no longer works and is uncomfortable, allowing the nautilus to grow as it should. Discomfort inspires change and growth for the nautilus and for us too. Are you ready for change? If you are, I am excited to support you in making that change. Together, we will look at what in your life is creating discomfort for you, what is contributing to that feeling, and how to help you change and grow towards a place that feels right for you.

I have been fortunate to work with individuals,
couples
and families dealing with a range of issues including, addiction, mental illness, traumatic events and difficult life transitions.
I believe that we all need support, however at times we may need a different type of support than what those close to us can and/or are able to provide. Reaching out and asking for help takes a significant amount of strength and courage, something I not only recognize, but respect in all aspects of my practice. Whether you are going through a difficult life experience or are dealing with something that is more long-standing and chronic, I am committed to working with you to reach your personal goals.

The longest
relationship
you’ll ever have is the one with yourself.
I’m sure you’ve been asked this a thousand times… “I’m so impressed—how do you do it?” On the one hand, that question is SO satisfying as your inner perfectionist steps up to claim her gold medal. But on the other, you’re silently screaming that the pressure of trying to do it all is crushing you. Your perfectionism shows up in your work. You probably find yourself working way more hours than your colleagues. It might show up in your relationships. Have you ever gone into a tailspin because you wanted to plan the perfect party for a loved one? Or it might show up within yourself—how you eat, dress, exercise, or maintain your home.

I am a highly trained and experienced clinical social worker whose practice invites individuals,
couples
& families facing adaptational challenges of all kinds throughout the life cycle: infancy through end-of-life. Working with strength-based developmental treatment models, I find best results are achieved in strong collaboration with individuals (and designated family members), who have the capacity to engage in a meaningful therapeutic
relationship
, have good family and social supports, and are motivated for change.

I have treated adults, children,
couples
, and families.
I'm a licensed clinical social worker experienced working with children, adults, and families. I believe that healing and growth are possible regardless of the pain or challenges that people experience and have faced. I earned a Masters in Social Work from Fordham University following my undergraduate education from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in International Studies with a focus on Conflict Resolution. Initially, interested in resolving global conflict, I learned the greatest conflicts in the world lie within us and between us in our daily lives.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
