I use CBT, EFT,
Somatic
experiencing and mindfulness techniques so that both thoughts and emotions can shift.
Life is full of chaos and uncertainty right now. It may have brought you anxiety, worries, sadness and grief. You may have had to deal with many life changes, ones that you want and ones that you don't want. It makes sense to feel off, overwhelmed, and like you lost your footing. We all need a safe space to process our experience and take a moment to breathe, regroup and learn how to adapt to life’s challenges. Clients come to me to feel seen, heard and sort through what is happening for them. They have overcome challenges in life and now want to find peace and healing. They want to be confident, calm, and true to themselves.

As a therapist, I integrate traditional therapeutic approaches with
somatic
-based, principles and practices that allow your truest essence to emerge and live a fuller, brighter and more abundant life.
Do you have a feeling that “something” is missing from your life and you can’t quite figure out what it is? Are you moving through each day with ruminating thoughts, fears, and feeling isolated even though you may be surrounded by people? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, there is an emotional block holding you back. The main blocks to living a full life are: fear, anger, grief, and shame. These blocks are unburdened wounds that need to be revealed and shared in order to live more fully. Together, we can chart the roadmap to unburden these wounds and get you on the path that you’ve been waiting for.

"You are doing the very best you can!" We enter adulthood with a lifetime of experiences-both positive and negative. Is today feeling like a replay of past trauma, relationships struggling, parenting making you feel like a failure, while the voice in your head says, "I am not enough?" My practice is based on the beliefs, “it is never too late” and “we each have infinite worth.” The quality of our early relationship with our caregivers, repeats without our awareness. Our past need not define our present. You are worthy of finding comfort within a secure, therapeutic relationship. Together we can explore and discover healing.

I am a clinical psychologist with expertise in treating addictions, eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, body image issues and difficulties with emotion regulation. I teach skills that increase life satisfaction, happiness, self-confidence, curiosity and gratitude. When life doesn't meet our expectations or painful situations occur, many people become self-critical and fight against emotions such as anger, loneliness, fear or shame. It is this lack of acceptance that increases suffering. Mindfulness and self-compassion involve responding with kindness to our own pain, thereby reducing suffering.

I am a fellow traveler on the path of healing. My own healing process informs my work as therapist as much as my different trainings have taught me. We cannot escape our past, but can use its teachings to open up our present and future. There is a wise person and healer within the limits our trauma has imposed upon us. Finding that inner resource is my vision for anyone choosing to work with me.

I also provide consultation to therapists, combining
somatic
therapy, EMDR and Janina Fisher's clinical application of structural dissociation model.
Please note my practice is currently full - telehealth sessions only. People seek therapy for different reasons - life transitions, anxiety, a sense that they could be living fuller lives and having deeper relationships. Sometimes people feel unhappy and stuck in old familiar behaviors and patterns that are no longer helpful. My intention is to co-create a safe, respectful, supportive space to hold the work. Some of my clients seek short term counseling for specific issues, and others want longer term counseling to gain a deeper understanding of the ways they relate to themselves, other people and the world.

My clients are primarily interested in self-empowerment. They are heartened by the opportunity to discover unconscious conditioning that might have stood in the way of their hope for happiness, success, and peace of mind. They feel revitalized when they gain new tools to reach their goals. One widespread issue that is common in therapy these days is 'poor boundaries.'
Somatic
Psychotherapy is a way to check in with the body to see what indication it offers us for a 'yes' or a 'no' to someone's request or expectation. A 'no' all too easily gets overridden by guilt, and always for invalid reasons. Learn how your body speaks volumes!

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
