I've been practicing as a psychotherapist for over 30 years. I have been clinical director of mental health facilities and on the faculty of Tufts University School of Medicine. I welcome clients 14 years of age and older -- individuals and couples, and offer you a warm personal approach focusing on your specific needs. I don't believe in a "one size fits all" model of practice or that therapy should be "a way of life." Therapy begins with a careful assessment and plan. If what we are doing isn't working for you, we change it.

Accepting new clients - I specialize in helping individuals and couples with life stress, grief, trauma, and relationship issues. My trauma-focused approach, drawing from various therapeutic methods, creates a safe space for healing. I’m a systemic therapist. I look at individuals, couples and families in their context of their environments, histories and relationships. I don’t believe that a “diagnosis” is an effective way to view a human being without greater context and understanding of their lives. My therapeutic method is grounded in exploring who you are as an individual, couple, or family - promoting true self healing.

“I work best with men who are ready to stop feeling stuck and start rebuilding their lives with clarity, confidence, and purpose. Many of the men I work with are navigating divorce, relationship breakdowns, career dissatisfaction, anxiety, or a loss of direction. They’re tired of overthinking everything and want practical tools to feel stronger, calmer, and more in control of their lives. If you’re motivated to grow, challenge old patterns, and build a life that actually feels good to live, I’d be honored to help.”

As a marriage and family therapist, I am uniquely trained to identify, track and break patterns between couples & families in conflict. I work toward helping individuals, couples and families take an active role in creating the kind of change they desire. Marriages are not meant to merely SURVIVE, but rather to THRIVE. In couples counseling I help parties develop greater insight into their relationship and maintain a mindfulness toward its growth. Through focusing on action steps, I actively challenge individuals and couples to take accountability for their own thoughts and behavior as opposed to assessing their partner's.

Young people today are faced with many challenges that place great amounts of stress on their emotional health. It is often helpful to have someone who can help them successfully move through these emotional challenges. I provide a community and office-based counseling service dedicated to helping adolescents and young adults build strengths that allow them to feel emotionally healthy again. When appropriate, I engage the supports of the family, the school, and the community in developing different approaches to affect behavioral difficulties that interfere with daily life activities and personal goals.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
