I use CBT, EFT , Somatic experiencing and mindfulness techniques so that both thoughts and emotions can shift.
Life is full of chaos and uncertainty right now. It may have brought you anxiety, worries, sadness and grief. You may have had to deal with many life changes, ones that you want and ones that you don't want. It makes sense to feel off, overwhelmed, and like you lost your footing. We all need a safe space to process our experience and take a moment to breathe, regroup and learn how to adapt to life’s challenges. Clients come to me to feel seen, heard and sort through what is happening for them. They have overcome challenges in life and now want to find peace and healing. They want to be confident, calm, and true to themselves.

Mental health is something many people neglect. I grew up in a culture where we didn’t talk about our mental health. This inspired me to be more mindful of my mental health and inspired me to help others. It is important to take time out our busy fast paced lives to practice self-care. Often times we fail to take care of our mental health. We fail to see the importance of how it can impact us and how other people can impact. Mental health is impacts by many different life stressors. It is one of the most important things that changes the way we think about and act in our day-to-day life.

As a marriage and family therapist, I am uniquely trained to identify, track and break patterns between couples & families in conflict. I work toward helping individuals, couples and families take an active role in creating the kind of change they desire. Marriages are not meant to merely SURVIVE, but rather to THRIVE. In couples counseling I help parties develop greater insight into their relationship and maintain a mindfulness toward its growth. Through focusing on action steps, I actively challenge individuals and couples to take accountability for their own thoughts and behavior as opposed to assessing their partner's.

With 25 years experience, I am a licensed in Marriage and Family therapy providing marital therapy, and individual therapy for adults, teens and children in West Hartford. We all need help sometimes making the changes that will improve the relationships, feelings and thoughts that keep us stuck. More and more people are turning to the Systemic (Family) therapy approach, because they are tired of treating only the symptom with medication or other methods and are ready to make the changes that not only heal the symptom (i.e. depression, anxiety, etc.) but help them begin to have the relationships and life they want.

Give yourself credit! The fact that you're seeking a therapist is a sign of inner strength and courage to face, rather than avoid a difficult situation. The heart of successful therapy involves a caring and close relationship with healthy boundaries where anything can be discussed without fear of judgement. Whether you are accustomed to handling your challenges on your own or prefer to bounce things off trusted friends, there are times when we all need a safe place to talk and be heard. I will provide that place for you.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
