I am skilled in working with couples to repair cracks to the foundation of relationships as well as with individuals and families who have been impacted by substance abuse or trauma.
I have found that all people need a safe space to explore the complexities of daily life and relationships. I have found great joy in partnering with clients to repair the parts of them that have been impacted by struggle, loss, conflict, and trauma as well as working with clients and their partners/families to restructure how people interact in order to make relationships feel accepting, supportive, and peaceful. I look forward to working with any client who is interested in and motivated to reflect upon themselves and build a strong connection to self in order to feel excitement and confidence.

Shifting obstacles into opportunities and learning to partner with the inevitable challenges life throws your way.
I believe within each of us is a powerful energy we can use to expand our lives. In moving beyond our limiting beliefs and the places where we get stuck, we open to our potential. Learning to manage our thoughts and emotions consciously, from a place of alignment with our values, allows us to identify and express the best version of us more consistently. It is just a matter of time before our external world begins reflecting these internal changes.

I utilize evidence based strategies to best meet your needs, whether that involves uncovering root causes of negative beliefs and thinking patterns, reviewing coping tools to address symptoms of anxiety and depression, exploring relationship dynamics and stressors or processing past trauma that continues to impact you in your day to day life.
Have you ever wondered whether therapy could be helpful? Has the idea of finding a provider or starting the process ever seemed scary or daunting? As a clinical psychologist, I understand the importance of building rapport and trust, as we pave the way for working together towards your goals and what you would like to get out of therapy. I aim to create a supportive and non-judgmental space so that my clients feel safe to explore needs, wants, inner conflicts and vulnerabilities.

My approach is body-centered with a focus on the nervous system, in utero and birth experience, symptoms that show up in relationship patterns, chronic pain, negative self beliefs, confusing and unexplainable behavior or thought.
I am a fellow traveler on the path of healing. My own healing process informs my work as therapist as much as my different trainings have taught me. We cannot escape our past, but can use its teachings to open up our present and future. There is a wise person and healer within the limits our trauma has imposed upon us. Finding that inner resource is my vision for anyone choosing to work with me.

I treat adolescents and adults as well as couples and families.
I am a clinical psychologist with expertise in treating addictions, eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, body image issues and difficulties with emotion regulation. I teach skills that increase life satisfaction, happiness, self-confidence, curiosity and gratitude. When life doesn't meet our expectations or painful situations occur, many people become self-critical and fight against emotions such as anger, loneliness, fear or shame. It is this lack of acceptance that increases suffering. Mindfulness and self-compassion involve responding with kindness to our own pain, thereby reducing suffering.

I've been practicing as a psychotherapist for over 30 years. I have been clinical director of mental health facilities and on the faculty of Tufts University School of Medicine. I welcome clients 14 years of age and older -- individuals and couples , and offer you a warm personal approach focusing on your specific needs. I don't believe in a "one size fits all" model of practice or that therapy should be "a way of life." Therapy begins with a careful assessment and plan. If what we are doing isn't working for you, we change it.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
