Additionally, I have worked extensively with women post partum, caregivers, ASD clients and families, and parenting skills training.
Although I began my career as a social worker in 1996 in the mental health field, I also currently work for a local CT school system during the daytime. This has presented me with the privilege of working with children with special needs, including ASD, and their families/ caregivers.

Receiving the experience of being truly heard, seen and known without preconceptions or judgement is the unique gift that the client/therapist relationship brings. It is a joy and an honor to have the opportunity to offer this healing relationship to my clients. In my 22 years of practicing I see how deep acceptance of my clients stirs the embers of their remembering of who they are. I am respectfully directive with my clients; offering them the shift in perception and ensuing behaviors that can transform their suffering into peace and a life lived with the joy of personal authenticity.

My goal is to help my clients find more balance and peace in their lives. I utilize a holistic approach that combines counseling, solution-focused coaching, art therapy, and mindfulness practices. In session, we explore the past and present, as well as wishes for the future. I help clients identify and cultivate patterns and behaviors that support these goals and overall wellbeing. We also examine habits and tendencies that are less helpful and create friction in life. I feel strongly about providing concrete tools to apply in everyday life between sessions, as well as "homework" to help clients create positive change.

Are you feeling uncertain about your own, or your child’s, ability to form and maintain relationships? An adult with advanced degrees can do quite well on their job but be avoided by their colleagues and have frequent disagreements with family members. A child with excellent academic success may be isolated and bullied by peers. For both the adult and the child, their way of communicating can lead to a lifetime of confusion about what is socially correct, why they are considered “arrogant,” and frequently told they are the problem.

Hello! I am a relational therapist who works with individuals, couples and families struggling to feel understood and secure. I specialize in Family Systems Theory which means I take the perspective of ones whole self - different parts of who you are and experiences you come from. This further helps me guide individuals through self exploration and identity. I love working with self esteem, anxiety, and relational distress. I find myself working with a lot of people struggling with broken trust, miscommunication, and a desire to understand how their upbringing affects their current emotions, perceptions, and behaviors.

I particularly enjoy working with clients whose marginalized identities ( women, LGBTQ, neurodivergent) contribute to them feeling like they are not good enough and need to be constantly achieving.
You’ve made it through past challenges and find yourself achieving, accomplishing, and appearing to have it together on the outside. However, deep down you feel like you’re not enough, and you can never do enough. The accolades have left you feeling empty. You’re tired of feeling unfulfilled, overwhelmed, and like you can’t catch your breath. You’re ready for some relief from your daily anxiety. You’ve mastered external measures of success, but now you want to get more curious about your inner world with the same level of drive. You’re ready to feel ease and a sense of purpose. Most of all, you’re ready to feel worthy.

I understand how the anxiety and despair that women and couples experience while trying to build their families can feel all consuming.
I am extensively trained in DBT and utilize a skills based approach to help clients build emotional resilience, learn to accept themselves, and work towards meaningful change. For six years, I facilitated support groups and helped build community for women and couples through RESOLVE: the national infertility association.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
