Stuck. Fearful. Insecure. No boundaries. Can't say no. No self-care, self-worth, or self-confidence. Coming last, behind everyone and everything. Feeling like no one cares, and you just don't matter. Does this sound like you? It's so easy to fall into routines of going through the motions of everyday life, thinking you have to just deal with 'it.' Aligning yourself with false beliefs and unrealistic expectations, working so hard on who you think you're supposed to be, instead of being you are meant to be - it's exhausting. Let's work together on getting honest and uncovering your most authentic, unique, incredible self.

I enjoy working with clients from all walks of life. Over the past 20 plus years I have seen thousands of clients with a variety of issues. I still am amazed by the resiliency of the human spirit and our ability to make shifts that create major results in our lives. Often people come overwhelmed thinking they need to make major changes, yet I have found that it is usually minor adjustments in our work together that lead to major changes in our daily life.

Getting to know my clients and their challenges makes my work as a Marriage and Family Therapist both rewarding and stimulating. Understanding what a person has been through and seeing their vision of their future is my goal. Collaborating with clients on their treatment plan and supporting their goals is an important part of my practice. I want clients to know they are welcomed and have found a safe space to express whatever is on their mind or in their heart.

Emotional well-being much like physical health is a journey. It is a process that takes both time and effort. What you gain from your effort is entirely up to you, but it helps to have the right support! I believe you are the director of your life’s purpose and your potential for health and wholeness can be limitless! I believe our hurts, our traumas, our personal judgments of ourselves, and the judgments we internalize from others are things that disconnect us from our inner self, and our ability to heal, realize our potential and shine our light fully can be challenging. What holds you back or disconnects you from your inner self?

I am a multiracial/ethnic, male therapist deeply concerned for clients facing societal challenges with special attention to professionals facing microaggressions, direct discrimination and betrayal within their institutions. People working under such undeserved and inescapable conditions often experience: chronic stress, anxiety, depression, grief, impaired self-esteem, relational challenges, and threats to employment/advancement. Many workers are additionally concerned about facing stigma and other obstacles in seeking mental health support.

Throughout my forty years of professional life I have worked with people who are coping with the complete range of mental health issues and diagnoses, as well as the problems of everyday life. With each individual I strive to create a supportive atmosphere in which we can work together, developing a trusting relationship that will allow us to address your concerns, your goals, your needs. I know how difficult it can be to talk about one's self, to express thoughts and feelings, but in such a non-judgmental therapeutic setting this becomes easier and leads to resolving issues great and small that even at times seem unsolvable.

Juggling a demanding career, being a new parent, the loving spouse, caregiver extraordinaire, and keeping up with friends, stress, and your health? Sounds like you're carrying a load fit for a superhero! Does it feel like you're spinning in a million directions, wishing you had more to pour into what truly matters to you? You're the go-to guru for everyone; friends, siblings, coworkers, but where's your lifeline? If you find yourself feeling like a stressed-out, irritable, and lonely ball of nerves, you're definitely not alone. The guilt of unmet expectations can loom large while your own needs sneak off into the shadows.

You’re not “broken”you’re overloaded by stress, expectations, trauma, and systems that never made room for your humanity. You function well on paper but feel worn down in real life. You’re sharp, skeptical, and tired of therapy that feels like emotional small talk. You don’t want clichés, you want clarity, strategy, and relief. You want your mind back, your body aligned, and your life operating on your terms. Therapy, for you, isn’t about fixing feelings, it’s about identifying the real problem, quieting the noise, and reclaiming control.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer Employee Assistance Plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.

What is an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)?
Employee Assistance Plans are purchased by employers for the benefit of their employees. EAPs typically assist employees with referrals and may also provide the first few sessions of therapy free of charge, with the patient's regular health insurance kicking in after those initial sessions. EAP benefits often apply to all types of therapy without the need for a medical diagnosis, making it easier to access couples therapy, therapy for life transitions, and other non-medical counseling. The EAP for the U.S. Armed Forces is Military OneSource. Just as with standard health insurance, clients should always check that a provider accepts their EAP benefits before scheduling.
