Are you a person of faith who has been experiencing difficulties in life? Have you found yourself asking, "If God is all-good and all-powerful, why is there so much evil in the world, and in my own life?!" Have your emotions taken a turn for the worse? Do you find yourself depressed and/or anxious - more often than not? Have you been turning to alcohol and/or drugs to "kill the pain?" Are you plagued by, or living in, the past, and/or filled with fear and uncertainty regarding the future? Finally, do you want to find a way out of all the overwhelming & frustrating emotions that have been putting your life on "pause?"

Individuals interact with life's challenges the best they can given the strategies they have. One of my goals is to help a person acquire further tools with which to work with. It is helpful when individuals are open to learning. I have often been sought out in my counseling career, because of these tools as they are used in support of my clients. I have found that I work well with individuals who are struggling with depression, anxiety and with persons whom are trauma survivors. When working with couples I predominantly use the Gottman Couples Method as I have completed their Level 3 training.

Life is hard and can be very challenging— and over time leave so many repetitive thoughts and emotions running through your mind, it can be hard to focus. Are you are looking for someone to listen with an un-biased ear and help you sort out your thoughts. Then I am your therapist. I understand the challenges of growing up, trying to fit in and how bullying can grate at one’s self-esteem and confidence. The pressures of living up to expectations and the anxiety that can provide. I can help rebuild that sense of confidence and self-esteem and believe everyone can reach their full potential with the right perspective on life.

No one is given a life free of hardships, challenges or difficulties. Often the bravest thing a person can do is to acknowledge having such an experience and to ask for help to get to a better outcome. I have been humbled and honored to work with people as they have healed, grown and learned through therapy. I am a deeply empathic person who will offer you the safety to explore and know your experience, and then will structure your helping process around a holistic understanding of where you are now. Our work together focuses on your goals to get you to your version of personal wellness. Please call or email so we can talk more!

Everyone needs someone to talk to, whether it's a family member, friend, spiritual leader, or someone else with whom you feel connected. If you've ever felt better after getting something off your chest, then you know what I mean. Therapy is often a place where we are free to share and explore the issues that challenge most of us at one time or another: relationships (romantic, family, etc.), stress, life transitions, parenting, anxiety, and more. My approach is one that respects where you are in your process, building the therapeutic relationship to help you move forward.

Do you feel you’re surviving through life rather than living it? Has your anxiety and/or depression immobilized you? Since 2003, I have helped thousands of individuals and families overcome their behavioral health issues. My therapy is an evidence-based clinical program called Neuro-Emotive Cognitive Behavioral therapy (NE-CBT). Individuals are taught to change their thinking, feelings, and behaviors. In my clinical sessions, I teach skills and concepts while helping individuals adapt them into their lives so that they may experience relief from their symptoms. Through NE-CBT, you can ground yourself both inward and outward.

As a couple and family therapist my approach views family, intimate partner and peer relationships as the foundation of our well-being. Our relationships shape how we view ourselves and influence future relationships. Depression, anxiety and general distress often occur as a result of strained relationships in our lives. I work with individuals, couples and families to identify the important stories which shape our understanding of ourselves and our relationships. Progress is achieved through gaining insights into our vulnerabilities and overcoming our defenses to create a positive environment for relationship intimacy to develop.

Kindness. Letting Go. Acceptance. Patience. Trust. Peace. If these words resonate with you, you may benefit from an approach like mindfulness based cognitive behavioral therapy. With this approach you can practice being kind and accepting towards yourself, including your thoughts and feelings, while at the same time working towards understanding and changing any unhelpful beliefs, habits, or situations in your life. Modern life, with all its stress and busyness and commotion, seems to combine with our individual challenges, difficulties, and burdens to push our human minds and bodies past the point of health and wellness.

Immediate Telehealth Openings Available. It can be hard to admit you’re struggling. You’ve already done most of the hard work by seeking out help. If you are trying to understand how relationships, education, work, and culture interact in your life, therapy can be a safe place to make sense of it all. As an Asian American man, I recognize how identities, relationships, and mental health intersect. I didn't grow up with emotional language, so finding mental health therapy in my 20s has been transformational.  As a child of immigrants and a parent myself, I have experienced intergenerational relationships from multiple roles.

I have worked in the mental health field for over 20 years and licensed in Connecticut as a Marriage and Family Therapist since 2000. I specialize in adult individual and family counseling and I have worked in CT for years. I have extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, or DBT, a highly effective treatment model used by quality programs around the world. I also use tools which target the unhealthy, self-sabotaging, and destructive thoughts and behaviors that have outlived their usefulness and tend to persistently result in sustained misery. A recent addition of spirituality has led to dramatic results in my patients

I understand that we can benefit from help if we feel stuck, overwhelmed or not sure where to turn. Sometimes people get stuck in patterns that may have been helpful but have become limiting or even destructive. I believe therapy can provide deep healing which allows for greater flexibility, ease, self knowledge and enjoyment of life. With 20+ years of experience, I have been successful in helping my clients through depression, substance abuse, anxiety, panic and grief and loss or just gaining more satisfaction with their lives. It has been an honor for me to do this.

Accepting new clients as of May 8th. Finding a new therapist can be a daunting process. It's normal to feel anxious or overwhelmed looking for someone to talk to about the hard stuff. I became a counselor because I love seeing people experience transformation. That's what I hope to do with you-help you accept what can't change and build the courage to change what can. My role in your counseling journey is to collaborate with you, ask the right questions and provide a space for you to figure out how to navigate your obstacles and opportunities.

Prior to that I worked for three years at an outpatient level with adults, family's and couples. I enjoy working with all types of clients and delving into family history as to what the root cause of the problem is and how to assist clients to come to a resolution of the origins of their problem and how it effects them today both personally and in their intimate relationships

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
