In addition to Marriage and Family therapy, I am trained in EMDR , IFS , and DBT; these approaches work well with various issues including anxiety , trauma/stress, impulsive behaviors, & mood disorders.
I have successfully worked with adults and children, couples and families, with both common and complex needs. My approach focuses on experiential awareness and processing, while working through present day thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is holistic in that it views symptoms as attempts at coping. We work together establishing a calm place within you, through the enhancement of personal awareness, resources, and developing coping strategies; we then progress beyond coping skills, moving through the roots of old learning so that your change is lasting, and from the inside out.

In walking life’s path we can encounter crossroads, or obstacles, which block our ability to see ahead. We might get flooded with anxiety , or bogged down by choice; pausing our journey. One positive way to resume progress is to gain insight into the challenge, and find a next step. Taking that step shifts perspective, enabling the discovery of yet more steps. Successful clients begin to view challenges as a way to build understanding, transforming difficulties into opportunities for growth.

My focus with adults has been anxiety , depression, and trauma.
In my 16 years of working with adults, children, adolescents, I have learned that everyone has incredible resiliency and amazing capacity for growth and change- regardless of the challenges they face. Each of us has their own unique gifts and strengths. As a therapist, it is my job to recognize those innate strengths and build on them in order to address whatever problems you are facing. Therapy can help you learn how to express themselves verbally and develop positive coping skills. For teens, therapy can be a safe place to gain important insights and move towards personal goals.

Typically, the usual approach to addiction begins with the premise that something is broken, and needs to be fixed. You will often be given a list of things to do,and a time frame to do it in. I believe that my job is to help you reflect on why you behave and think the way that you do, and coach you to begin the process of making the changes you need to make in your life in order to heal. Change begins with you. It is important to become more solution-focused, and not distracted by worry and anxiety .

In our work together you’ll learn strategies to lean into the anxiety , face your fears , and shut down those terrible thoughts.
The same thought has been assaulting you in an agonizing loop of repetition for days on end. Or has it been weeks? One compulsive behavior or another keeps you trapped in a constant cycle of despair. The more you resist, the tighter it grabs you - there's no escape. No one understands how hard it is or that you can't just stop. They couldn’t imagine how much you suffer inside your own mind. So, you hold it all in and suffer in silence, ending each day drained, defeated, and depressed. What you wouldn't give to get your life back, to be free. It’s time to make a change - time to get unstuck.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
