I am certified in Animal Assisted Therapy and together with my animal partners I offer a non traditional approach to treating anxiety, trauma and depression. Have you experienced trauma or loss? Are you struggling with stress, anxiety and/or depression? Is traditional talk therapy intimidating or not really your style? Maybe you just don't have the words to describe what you’re feeling. Well you have come to the right place.

Crises or life stressors are often what initially bring people to therapy. Others come to work on old issues that continue to re-surface, causing problems for the individuals themselves or in their relationships with family, or at work. Many people find therapy to be a place where they can work on increasing personal insight and self-awareness in order to live more fulfilling lives, and work toward achieving their highest potential. Whatever brings you here, therapy can be a place to help you restore balance in your life and live life to the fullest. In therapy, we work together to bring about lasting change.

When we experience trauma it can effect all aspects of our lives, our psychological, emotional and physical well-being can all be compromised. Trauma related issues include: physical pain, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance, anger, substance abuse, procrastination and avoidance behaviors. These issues can be present even if the trauma occurred in our pre-verbal years. Talk therapy alone even when paired with medication is often not enough to provide the true relief and healing we seek and deserve. This is why I incorporate Emotional Freedom Techniques into my practice.

Addiction is powerful but so are you! I believe that sometimes all people need is a little help remembering how much power they have within themselves. It is easy to fall into the trap of constantly feeling like you are not good enough. Developing a solid sense of self can be achieved by exploring your feelings, finding meaning in your life, and focusing on your strengths. My vision for the people I work with is to support them in finding freedom, rebuilding their lives, and using their strengths to reach their goals.

Together, we will explore strategies to increase your insight (the ability to see your larger picture, connect present and past experiences, and plan for the life you want to live). I believe that therapy is half science and half art form...It can be skills-based or more existential in nature. You and I will find what works best for you - and then, simply stated, follow that path. It is my professional and personal conviction that you deserve to have a therapist who is 100% present for you, respects your life experience and culture, and utilizes tools that feel right and make the most sense to you.

You feel tired, battered, and broken just filled with despair. Invisible scars of your trauma weigh heavily on your mind and body. Which causes you to be confused and have you seconding guessing your life and the decisions you have made this far. You have sleepless nights constantly worrying about various life stressors and can’t find the words to express how you are feeling. The lack of support from family makes you feel alone, abandoned and rejected. At times you feel drained and defeated and the smallest chore feels like the hardest task to accomplish.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
