I have expertise in using evidenced based trauma treatment with children, adolescents, young adults, and
women
.
Interpersonal relationships shape the way we see and interact with the world around us. Experiencing trauma can turn our lives upside down and take a toll on our relationships. While each individual has a unique reaction to their circumstance, many feel vulnerable and confused about what is safe, others may be overwhelmed by feelings of hopelessness, anger, or depression. Trauma impacts the person who endured the experience and those that they love. I provide a nurturing environment that fosters emotional wellness and healing. A place where young people and families can acquire the skills necessary for lasting change.

I am a cisgender queer
woman
(pronouns: she/her).
I specialize in working with clients with eating disorder, trauma, and addiction. I have a particular interest for working with marginalized voices, especially within the LGBTQ+ community. One passion is helping those impacted by power-based personal violence and assisting them in reclaiming their voice. I believe in fostering mutually-empowering relationships with clients that assist in supporting them through their personal journeys and encouraging them to access their inner strength and capacity for change. I enjoy working with individuals, families, and groups, with a special interest in the emerging adult population.

This suffering can take many forms--low self-esteem, difficulty with relationships, illness, depression, excessive worry or anxiety, coping with loss, family problems, alcohol abuse, divorce, and other important issues. I will work with you to help alleviate suffering by identifying thinking patterns or behaviors that might be involved in preventing you from moving forward and/or by assisting you in creating coping skills to deal with challenging situations.

There’s a part of you that feels like you’re about to 🅴🆇🅿🅻🅾🅳🅴! You're stuck in a repetitive cycle with little improvement. You find it hard to smile sometimes and it makes you wonder when peace will arrive. You’re burnt out, too tired to hang with friends, too overwhelmed to play with your kids and the sight of your significant other is not helping. How long will continue with these repetitive cycles? This isn’t a healthy way to live and if you continue you may end up resenting the world and yourself. Operating from a place of discomfort is never easy and finding the help you deserve can be even harder.

Hello! I am currently accepting new clients via telehealth! I am a licensed professional counselor who provides individual therapy for adults. My aim is to assist clients in gaining insight into their own mental health struggles and co-collaborate treatment goals based on what they want to achieve. I do focus a great deal on self-care, how to create boundaries, self esteem, and how to ask for help. Having a good support system and making sure your needs are met are important part of your foundation. I also explore how to identify emotions experienced and where they stem from that get in the way of our functioning and our happiness.

I am a fellow traveler on the path of healing. My own healing process informs my work as therapist as much as my different trainings have taught me. We cannot escape our past, but can use its teachings to open up our present and future. There is a wise person and healer within the limits our trauma has imposed upon us. Finding that inner resource is my vision for anyone choosing to work with me.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
