Bilingual Counselor-Educator-Researcher-Artist-Breast Cancer Survivor…….. My name is Cristina “Cristy” Thornell (née Martínez-Smith) and I was born and raised in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico. After completing all my professional studies in Texas, I became a Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC, with training in both English and Spanish. I received my master's degree in Community Counseling, and my doctorate degree in Counseling, Education and Supervision.
As a bilingual counselor, I have provided services in both English and Spanish, to people living in diverse community settings, facilitated court mandated group therapy for teens and parents. As a former full-time faculty, I taught master-level counseling students and trained bilingual counselors.
