As a Licensed Professional Counselor in Kansas, I enjoy learning and growing with my clients of all ages and backgrounds. C.S Lewis once said, “There are no ordinary people.” I believe there are no ordinary struggles or victories, joy or pain, trauma or coping…It is my goal, as a counselor, to uncover what makes each client unique as they face the ebbs and flows of life. I collaborate with clients to build on strengths, while confronting old thinking that is way too ordinary to support an extraordinary life. For these reasons, I work from a Narrative Therapy perspective.

Let me walk beside you, as you create the narrative that you want to live by; not the narrative that is no longer serving you.
I know that therapy isn't one-size-fits-all. We all face challenges in life, some endure more than others, but you're not expected to handle it all on your own. I'm passionate about providing a safe environment that is validating, engaging, and focused on positive change to help both children and adults heal through their own unique therapeutic journey. My purpose includes creating a safe and accepting environment for children and families to grow from and to feel inspired by their own capabilities. I earned my graduate degree at Friends University, and I also have extensive training in the practice of Child-Centered Play Therapy.

My therapeutic styles consist of cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, narrative and dialectal behavior therapy.
To be human is to struggle. Your struggle is real to you and it is real to me. There is a profound importance to feeling safe when opening up to what you're struggling with. When we feel safe in opening up we can work towards goals, which can improve overall personal growth. I want to come alongside you and together help you gain insight, skills and strength to make positive changes within your life.

My approach to counseling integrative, combining internal family systems, narrative, and experiential approaches.
I am a firm believer in the idea that there is no issue too small, and know that the path to growth and healing can be a scary one. In the words of Tiffany Roe, “you gotta feel, deal, heal.” I consider it an honor to walk this path with people and believe that there is hope in all stories. I work with eating disorders, self esteem/body issues, anxiety disorders, and depression. I work with my clients to identify their unique values and integrate their mind and body experience.

I enjoy working with teen and adult individuals from all walks of life, but feel particularly drawn to walking alongside clients on a journey of empowerment and liberation from oppressive and unhealthy relationships and/or systems. I believe that the most healing part of therapy is the co-created space and relationship between clinician and client. My work is trauma-informed, and I practice from a stance of authenticity, acceptance, and warmth. I have a blended approach, regularly drawing from theories such as client-centered, CBT, narrative, attachment and social learning, transactional analysis, and restorative/embodied practices.

My practice considers the brain/body connection, attachment, & life narrative as I support people to find their way.
Change is hard. Life not working is harder. A million experiences have brought you to today...the good, the tragic and the unimaginably lovely. Within your experience is potential for success however you define it and no matter your origin, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, gender, race, IQ, body size, education. People want good in their lives but sometimes get lost along the way. It's part of being human. I understand that and have built my practice around compassionately normalizing human struggle and helping people create better lives using their commitment to change along with their values and strengths.

If you're tired of pain keeping you from peace, CBT, EMDR, Gottman's Method, Attachment Theory, Mindfulness, EFT, Systemic Family Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy are tools that can help.
You want to be seen, understood, and supported. Most therapists do that well. But you deserve more than most- you deserve a therapist that helps you discern your life story, resolve your emotional difficulties, strengthen your relationships, and fulfill your purpose, so you can cultivate a life you love. I've helped hundreds of people facing difficult paths of grief, trauma, depression, conflict, and anxiety reach a deeper experience of gratitude, peace, love, and fulfillment in their lives. Therapy is hard work, but it is not harder than living with unaddressed pain and in dysfunctional patterns.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
