I believe the most important aspect of a therapeutic relationship involves creating a safe space for people to process their difficulties without feeling judged, regardless of religion, sexual orientation, or ethnicity. I take a "person centered" approach to help people work toward their treatment goals at their own pace, helping them to lean on their own strengths and supports. I lean heavily into Internal Family Systems to help clients become aware of, understand, and accept the different parts of themselves and learn ways to integrate these parts so they can work together instead of against each other.
We will work together to explore what makes you, YOU! Lots of times we will look at childhood, how you were parented, the relationship you have with your parents now, and compare/contrast how those relationships affect the relationships you choose as an adult. At the core of my approach is focusing on the self, getting to know, understand, and accept you.
I am not a faith/religious based therapist. You will never hear me say "give it to God, pray about it, etc" in session. I am strongly against bringing my own values/beliefs into sessions and prefer the focus be on clients. A heads up that I do cuss on occasion! I look forward to meeting and talking with you!
