My approach to counseling is focused on developing a trusting, understanding, and empathetic counseling relationship.
Sometimes life can feel a bit overwhelming and cause you to feel alone. I believe that asking for help takes courage and is a powerful move in making a difference in your life. I hope we can work together to find the answers you may be looking for within you. I am here to help with any life challenges you may be going through.

Chances are you feel like your relationship lacks trust and intimacy. You might feel like the arguments you have with your loved one always end up in "band-aid" type solutions, and that your partner doesn't quite understand what you're needing or feeling when you express what's important to you. But you're ready to make a change. You're ready to feel like your partner is on your team and would love to build an even deeper connection with him/her/them. You don't want your past to define your future and want to break from old patterns to reach new levels in your relationship where it feels more real and honest.

I have 15+ years of experience in social services including the Peace Corps, clinical internships, crisis response, individual, couples, and family psychodynamic psychotherapy, and facilitating groups.
You are a problem-solver, capable of solving complex situations, yet, some emotions and thoughts get the best of you. You identify as creative, an artist, maybe a writer who relies on intuition and vision, yet, sometimes, get lost in circles, dead ends, or worse - invisible patterns. You are a caregiver, a healer, a confidant, a mother, a father, a best friend who finds it challenging to consider your own wants and needs. You are in-between worlds, cross-cultural, inter-disciplinary, a designer, a connector sometimes pulled in different directions, conflicted or doubting yourself and your relationships.

I wish to serve people of color and other marginalized groups who have experienced chronic oppression and injustices. I would love to work with individuals, couples and families who are ready to step into their power and reclaim their voice. I wish to serve those who are in need of healing and need assistance processing grief, loss, frustration and exhaustion from life's trials and adversities. Being a person of color poses many challenges in this country and seeking help from professionals who look or talk nothing like you makes it far more difficult. I see you and I'm here for you.

We seek help when an issue arises that we can’t seem to get through. In relationships, we might find ourselves having the same argument with our partner, family member or loved one over and over again. Maybe there’s an internal struggle we’ve tried to solve by reading self-help books or talking to our closest friends, only to find the problem is still a problem. That’s where I can help. Together we’ll identify goals and collaborate on a treatment plan. The beginning of any journey or change begins with acceptance, the proper treatment, and a healthier connection with ourselves and the world around us.

Do you find yourself frustrated with your partner, no matter what you do? You may be fed up with arguing and having conversations that go nowhere, feeling disappointed or like your feelings don’t matter. You might not even remember a time things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to feel safe and supported in your marriage. You’re ready to have each others’ backs and feel like a team. Most of all, you’re ready to feel deeply connected and in love again.

We approach therapy as a collaborative relationship between therapist and client, utilizing a variety of modalities to best suit the client's needs and style to help clarify limiting perspectives, develop meaningful goals, and explore new ways to cope with barriers.
Each person has the ability to learn, grow and make necessary changes in their personal life, relationships, and situations. We aim at exploring and understanding ways of thinking and patterns of behavior one may be completely unaware of, resulting in repetitive patterns of behavior that ultimately lead to dissatisfaction and emotional turmoil in a person's life. We are driven by a belief that each individual has potential to grow from their life experiences, whether it be good or bad. As a group of highly qualified and trained therapists, we are passionate about solving critical challenges and inspiring personal growth.

My school emphasized that the catalyst for positive change is the relationship one has with their therapist, over the method they employ.
What has lead you to therapy can be defined as a moment that you chose a different path. It is brave to pick ourselves up when we fall, brave to continue on in the face of adversity— and it is braver still to ask for help. I’ll bring my sense of wonder and hope for the human spirit. I will bring my goodwill and eagerness to help. I'll bring my curiosity and openness and ask questions that will clarify for the both of us. I hope that you will bring your willingness to work hard in the face of difficult questions. It isn’t easy to admit we might need change, and it’s hard to accept change-- even if that change is for the better.

Indeed, I offer a relationship that would explore where things are going great and not so great.
I work best with clients who are struggling with their ethnic and cultural identities, particularly those with multiple ways of identifying. Specifically, how these conflicting identities may impact their relationships with family, friends, and romantic partners. Though culture is what I explore primarily, I also focus on intrapersonal exploration, including areas of personal and professional growth. In both instances, it is vital to identify the specific issues that are barriers to achieving what the client perceives as an ideal self. Setting several short-term goals to accomplish on the way until a long-term goal is achieved.

You hope to ease your distress and experience healing, and ultimately, to enjoy satisfying, fulfilling relationships with others and with yourself. You seek the magic that comes from looking within and cultivating a relationship with your own rich inner world- a brave and vulnerable first step to finding wholeness, relief, and self-awareness. Depth psychotherapy is the process of turning inward and examining unconscious aspects of the self that have influenced you outside of your awareness, a practice that not only alleviates symptoms and suffering, but transforms unhealthy coping behaviors and problematic relationship patterns.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
