I specialize with grief and loss, anxiety, depression, attachment and couples work, and end of life issues.
I am a Colorado native who is passionate about holistic health. When I became a counselor I decided that I wanted to understand others suffering and value them as a whole person. Part of my core belief is that each facet of your life and self contribute to your overall health. In the counseling process, I try to explore with you all parts of self and integrate them to restore balance and help you to achieve your goals.

Couples come to me to communicate better, grow closer, heal affairs, and improve sexual intimacy.
Do you often argue about the same issues? Do you feel like you aren't being heard? Does it seem like you can never get it right with him/her? Do you want closeness, but don't know how to get it? All relationships experience disconnections & conflict. You CAN get back those good feelings that brought you together in the first place. I can help you make sense of the communication breakdowns and patterns leading to conflict. I'll help you learn to communicate in a way that brings closeness & intimacy back into your relationship.

Has your world been turned upside down after learning of your partner's secret romantic or sexual experiences? Do you feel furious, devastated, numb and confused all at the same time? One moment you feel love and the next extreme anger, one moment you're screaming and the next you're crying, one moment you're determined to leave and the next wondering if you can forgive? Or perhaps you've been dealing with this for a while and you feel stuck; you still can't trust or forgive, can't stop thinking about what happened, and worry about it happening again? I understand how you feel and am so deeply sorry that you're going through this.

Relationships can be hard work, but so worth the effort. I'm here to help you reconnect and repair with the love of your life. As a couples therapy specialist, I see couples go from discouraged to hopeful all the time. Does this sound like you? "I feel so disconnected, when the goal was to be close. We end up arguing when we meant to have fun and feel loved. We aren't having sex much anymore, when that used to be one of the favorite parts of our relationship. I try to make them happy, only to feel like I'm failing." Even though it might feel scary or daunting, don’t wait to get help while the hurts pile up and the distance grows.

Can you imagine a world where you include yourself in a space rather than dismissing your needs for the sake of others? A safe therapeutic space can provide individuals and couples access to tools for effective communication.
Your life has become a redundant pattern. In many ways, you feel numb. Your daily routine has become structured around meeting the needs for others and you have become disconnected from your own. You have experienced trauma and feel misunderstood by others. The patterns of these traumatic events appear to be reoccurring in the present day and you wonder how much longer you can carry the weight of this pain. Maybe you started to feel like this recently or maybe this has been ongoing for years, either way, you’re ready for a change. You aspire to feel empowered, gain self-worth, and to regain control.

ADULTS & COUPLES: I primarily work from an attachment-informed, emotionally focused therapy (EFT) model.
Therapy should captivate and transform you. When you are struggling to move past conflicts or getting stuck in all-too-familiar patterns, there should be something so direct, personal, and real about what you discover and practice in therapy that it should dramatically change how you think, feel, and act with others. That's my specialty. Yet, even though therapy is serious work, there should be room for play: for trying things on, for practice, for being human. As a family therapist I care about the quality of your relationships. My approach? Connecting. Pragmatic. Thorough. Creative.

When you're tired of arguing, feeling unappreciated, misunderstood or drifting too far apart, it's time to get some help for your relationship. Contrary to myths about therapy, it's a relationship strength to reach out for support when you’re stuck in negative patterns with those you love. Research shows that many couples wait years beyond when they should get help, & this makes the task much more difficult. As someone who has been a client & a therapist, I know it can be so daunting to start therapy, & I am here to help you navigate the process that so many couples wish they would have started sooner. Your relationship is worth it!

Relationships ARE hard work, but what happens when working harder isn't improving things? You dream about the kind of connection you want to have, but then nobody gives you a manual for navigating life's curveballs, or when the relationship you long for isn't what plays out.
Many things can impact our lives and relationships from stress, anxiety, and depression, to trauma, substance use, sexual difficulties, life transitions, and unresolved childhood attachment injuries. My hope is that together we will cultivate new corrective experiences that bring you closer to your true needs and desires. Together, we will identify your goals and set you up to achieve them. Through therapy we will develop better communication and connection skills that will foster deeper connections with the people in your life. I will strive to help you regain confidence in your innate strengths and abilities, hopes, and dreams.

If your relationship is hurting, I want to help you regain what has been lost or even build the relationship you've always wanted. Maybe you've lost trust, lost sight of the love you once had, or lost connection with your partner. Maybe you and your partner have lost the ability to communicate, constantly getting stuck in a cycle of misunderstandings and arguments. You may have tried all you know to do, and lost your sense of self and purpose as well along the way. Whether you are grieving damage or disconnection to your relationship, or just plain want a better relationship, I know that repair and growth are possible.

My work specializes in individual and couples therapy for those experiencing conflict in their relationship. I anticipate sessions with clients speaking from a position of "rightness" early in therapy with a smooth transition to deepened listening while recognizing personal missteps and growth considerations. As a client, you will be expected to be the main character in your narrative and over time place less change demands on the supportive roles in your life. You will speak with purpose and listen with the intention of learning to step into the next chapter of your relationship with yourself and your partner.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
