Staying connected to your partner can be tough - even when there’s a lot of love in your relationship. In fact, being in love can make it that much more painful when you feel far away from or unheard by “your person.” I use Emotionally Focused Therapy to help couples who love one another deeply, yet feel like they are missing each other. My approach is nurturing, compassionate, intuitive, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I love helping parents of young children, pregnant and postpartum couples navigate the challenges that come with life with kids.

Therapy can be a transformative space for individuals, couples, and families to reimagine the way they relate to themselves and one another. Deep down, we believe we all want what is best for ourselves, our relationships and our families, but sometimes the pains from the past and uncertainty of life can block us from fulfillment and true connection. Life is difficult and can bring unimaginable pain. Relationships and parenting are complex. Everyone needs support.

Working from an emotion-focused lens, I help couples and families find their way back to each other after conflict and distance have settled in.
By now you may feel like you've tried everything. Perhaps your home has become a battleground, filled with fights that repeat over and over without any progress. Maybe you feel like you have hit a wall with your partner and aren’t sure how to move forward, or maybe you feel stuck, watching from the sidelines as your child navigates the many challenges of adolescence. Taking action can help resolve these feelings of helplessness and taking the initiative to seek treatment is the first step forward. If you or your child is struggling to live a fulfilling life—or even struggling to make it through the day—it’s time to seek help.

I provide a safe and compassionate space for both individuals and couples, grounded in trusted and effective healing modalities, including somatic and emotionally focused therapies.
Relationships evoke our deepest longings and fears, and touch on wounds that may have been long hidden, wounds which we’ve often lived a lifetime without recognizing. The pain of disconnection we feel in relationships, the heated arguments and periods of distance or alienation, can leave us lost and confused, stuck in emotional knots, with our desire for closeness vying against our protective reactions. Cycles of conflict may escalate, and with them, the pain. All the while, deep down, we quietly long to share ourselves more honestly and fully with those whom we are closest to.

Using EMDR & other modalities, such a CBT, IFS & DBT, I work with adults, teens, and families, struggling with conflict, relationship issues, anger, depression, anxiety, divorce, violence, gender identity, family reunification, abuse, and PTSD.
Dealing with trauma and past hurts, struggling with work, relationships, or addiction, managing depression & anxiety or to better understand one's gender identity or sexuality - it isn't easy to address any of these things. I see therapy as a safe, judgment-free, shame-free, and confidential space, where you are free to vent, confide, cry, discuss, imagine, find strength, and be empowered. Most importantly, therapy is a place for hope to come alive, to learn new coping skills, to achieve personal growth, and to discover you are strong, valuable, and greater than any struggle you might have. Change is possible!

Anxiety, stress, and low self-esteem making you feel like there must be more to life than what you are currently experiencing? Has your relationship with your partner, spouse, or children left you wanting more from these connections? Sometimes the monotony of life gets in the way of us becoming the people we want to be. I believe each individual, couple, and family have particular gifts and qualities that make them unique and I love exploring and harnessing these strengths with you to become the best version of yourself.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
