An area of focus in my practice is working with parents, couples and families in times of adjustment and transition, particularly in the early years of parenthood. Parenthood can be very demanding especially when you're trying to maintain a career and relationships with your partner, family and friends. I work with clients to give them communication tools and self-care strategies as well as increasing self-awareness and personal insight.

Feeling understood, feeling helped, and feeling supported are at the core of psychotherapy. This process also includes developing and enhancing self understanding. I have been a therapist for over 25 years and have worked in many different settings. I am very experienced in treating people with a broad spectrum of psychological problems. I have a long history of treating people who have experienced different types of trauma from sexual abuse to the effects of living in a war zone. I can help people who experience anxiety and depression and well as relationship issues. I am trained in cognitive behavior therapy but have studied many other treatment modalities. I am a teaching and supervising member of the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association.

I think of therapy as like sanctuary - a place where there aren't distractions, where there is an opportunity to pay attention to what is important, in a spirit of kindness. Because of this, many individuals and couples find it to be enjoyable, and very relieving. Of course, since people do therapy to work on painful things, therapy itself isn't always easy. I believe that mental health issues arise when we are faced with overwhelming emotions in isolation. Without the necessary support, emotions get so big and daunting that we defend ourselves against them, leading to numbness, anxiety, and depression. My goal is to invite intense emotions into the room so that we can learn to regulate them together and they can be reincorporated into the psyche, leading to a fuller and healthier life.
