My work has always included individual adults, couples, families, and groups. My clients have been impacted by trauma, coped with depression, anxiety, sexual difficulties, identity development, difficulties in work environments, challenges in relationships, pursued aspirations in the professions and arts, and explored existential questions. Many cope with the impact of discrimination and oppression based on race, ethnicity, gender, identity, age, and intersectional factors. I have experience with the existential and practical questions related to aging. I have a lot of experience working with chronic pain.

Let us sit together and discover new ways of coping based on your strengths and write the story of "you" that you prefer. Your personal story matters and I strive to be aware and considerate of the ways every-day life intersects with who YOU are, and work with you towards life satisfaction.

My experience has been with children, youth, adolescents and adults working individually, with couples and with groups.
We all learn, whether intentionally or not, ways to handle the hardships that are a part of our life. These choices and mechanisms can be helpful and fruitful for our lives, or they can have hurtful and destructive outcomes. Some may seek healing, while others may choose to numb or ignore uncomfortable circumstances. No matter where you may fall in this spectrum, my desire as a therapist is to assist you with learning healthy and positive coping skills, so that you can take these skills into your everyday life and bring about the change you would like to see in yourself.

My goal is for clients to benefit from my experience as a LMFT (132685), registered nurse (307004), & a doctorate in human sexuality. I have a broad range of counseling experiences from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), relationship management, anxiety, and LGBTQ issues. Generally, psychotherapeutic problems are interrelated in some form. For example, many LGBT+ clients deal with nonacceptance from significant others. Resolving feeling of alienation can enhance one's livability. Many diverse individuals' have experienced various forms of traumas in their lifespan (rejections, sexual violations, biases), PTSD is not uncommon.

I offer many modalities of therapy and I have worked with all age groups from children/adolescence, adults, geriatric, groups, and couples as well.
I believe that the power of vulnerability is one of our greatest strengths and ultimately can provide us with a deeper sense of self, security, comfort, and more compassionate towards one another. Coming from a strength-based form of doing therapy and providing support to others, I work to provide my clients with a sense of validation and comfort. As a cis male that identifies as Latinx and as a proud member of the LGBTQIA community, I am able to hold the experience of living in many diverse, cross-cultural emotional experiences that we sometimes may not even know how to begin to understand.

I offer EMDR, Sex Therapy, EFT for Couples, and psychodynamic process groups, all from a relational, psychodynamic orientation.
I love working with clients who are curious about what more there is to experience in this life, who are ready to do the work of diving within in order to heal past wounds and create a life that they truly love. Sometimes trauma, relationship problems, work, or other life circumstances can result in our lives shrinking. We can become fearful or lose touch with what it is that we love, prioritizing other things. I'm committed to walking with you while you get back to yourself by processing all that you've been through.

Through treatment you will be able to improve relationships, decrease depression, anxiety, increase work productivity, and have a gratifying and intimate sex life with your partner.
How many hours have you spent on the internet and telling your family that it was for work or for school when it was porn? How many times have you told yourself that you would quit or at least cut down? You do not have to wait until your family finds out before you reach out for help. Pornography addiction can be as real as drug addiction and it can ruin relationships and even get you fired. Partners often see the use of porn as cheating, even if you do not.

Therapy can offer guidance on your journey towards emotional freedom and mental well being. Modern therapists want to teach you the tools to create your own psychological, emotional, ethical, sexual and philosophical way in the world- your life, for you, by you. There are individuals, groups, corporations, even therapists- whole systems of people designed to try to make you feel outraged, anxious, addicted, scared, depressed, helpless, and hopeless. Whether they are successful or not is up to you.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
