Some people who experience trauma may struggle with memories and thoughts about the event. They may have nightmares or feel angry all the time. They may want to avoid thinking about the trauma or encountering things that remind them of it. While it may feel better momentarily, avoidance of the trauma can keep you stuck from recovering from PTSD. As a certified trauma therapist, I offer a treatment that helps heal PTSD in 12-15 sessions. I specialize in working with first responders & veterans and am extensively trained to work with the unique challenges they face, however, I work with all forms of trauma.

My goal as a therapist is to assist clients in finding their own path to improve overall health and quality of life through a greater understanding of self, relationships and happiness. As a former teacher and school counselor, I have a wide range of experience working with adolescents dealing with anxiety, depression and school related issues, etc. I have seen how demanding this period of life can be and how having the right support system in place can make all the difference.

I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Auburn University in 2008. I have worked in the psychological field for the past 20 years. I offer individual psychological therapy for adolescents, college students, and adults. I also provide family and couples therapy.

I have been a therapist for 24 years and my main goal is to provide a safe, trusting, and ethical counseling environment. I have intensive training in trauma. My background is unique and varied which provides a broad range of knowledge, and experiences from having served in the U.S. Army, worked in Law Enforcement for over twenty-five years, worked on a church staff and as Therapist. I believe in healthy ways of "changing your state" of feeling, well-being, and inspiration; these healthy natural change-of-state techniques gradually replace any unhealthy ways which are of course always available as false solutions to inspiration-gaps and painful quandaries, and which create negative results including habituation.

Angry teens and struggling adults are my passion. I love helping teens become more assertive, turn from destructive ways, and find their purpose in life. Dr. Britt earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Auburn University in 1998. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Alabama Psychological Association. She has worked in the Auburn-Opelika community for the last 21 years. Her practice is focused on providing effective, research-based therapeutic treatment to address both clinical problems as well as overwhelming stress in today's world. The clients seen in Dr. Britt's practice range from adolescence through adulthood.
