I have worked in the substance abuse/mental health treatment fields for 14 years and identify as an individual in recovery. The focus of my practice is to provide a space for individuals to enhance their well-being and quality of life. I can't "cure you" and I have no "magical answers" but I can help you explore and shift the way you think, feel and interact with yourself and others.

I treat people with trauma issues, depression, anxiety, PTSD, career moves, family issues, OCD, addictive behaviors, relationship problems and interpersonal unhappiness often beginning with providing psycho-educational information such as personal boundaries, basic human rights, safety, and coping and advocacy skills.

Hello - I am a counselor who is also a Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse with 40 years of experience, including 20 years of practicing Clinical Hypnosis for a myriad of issues: anxiety, trauma, depression, and pain, to name but a few. I also train clinicians to utilize Clinical Hypnosis and am an Approved Consultant for the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. I focus on finding and treating the cause of the symptoms and in this way, most symptoms are markedly reduced and, often gone altogether. As a client, you and I would team up together and work cooperatively as a team!

I can heal PTSD in a single session. SAMHSA, the Federal mental health agency, has registered Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) as an evidence-based protocol for treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, anxiety and depression. In two different scientific studies a significant decline in symptoms was found after less than four treatments. Many clinicians have found that we can usually heal the symptoms of PTSD resulting from a single traumatic incident, like an assault or a car accident, in a single session. Prolonged trauma, such as childhood emotional abuse, may take longer to heal, but is usually resolved quickly.

How amazing would it be if there was one 'go-to' book to guide everyone in learning how to live their lives to the fullest, discover true happiness, and relish in the satisfaction of working through the daily challenges we are handed. I have yet to discover this book. However, in my 10 years of working with children, youth, adults, and families with emotional and behavioral challenges I've learned that our experiences in life, no matter how difficult, are important and shape how we relate to others, how we feel, and move through this journey of life.

The ideal clients I am reaching out to are interested in participating in teletherapy, either individually or as couples. Due to a number of breaking developments, I have decided to convert my long-running practice to online therapy. I have professional counseling licenses in Vermont, MIssouri, and Illinois. I work from Missouri. Furthermore, I am seeking clients who prefer to work outside of the insurance system. I am rebooting my practice to offer high-qualify and affordable therapy. Whether that manifests as sadness, loneliness, guilt, shame, boredom, numbness, stagnation, anxiety, or fear, when these feelings appear, they can leave us feeling trapped and powerless in the face of the many challenges of life. My goal is to provide a non-judgmental environment in which people can feel free to build awareness around their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, habits, and relationship dynamics. This awareness provides the basis for personal transformation.

I believe that all people have the potential to be happy in their lives, regardless of what they have suffered. In therapy we develop self-awareness to clarify what is truly important to the person's life and whether they are living their life in accord with those values. Happiness also includes learning to have the right relation to negativity - to "compost" difficult emotions and situations to transform them into strength and resilence. I help the client use mindfulness/meditation practices to help encourage gratitude, which in turn dispels self-critical thinking that leads to depression and anxiety.

How do we cope with such enormous uncertainty? Working effectively with your mind and reactivity is essential to finding balance, strength, comfort and connection. In attempting to individualize treatment, I cultivate an integrative responsiveness utilizing those techniques that seem best able to serve the client's needs and promote therapeutic goals. Often these goals extend beyond symptom relief to include the enhancement of psychological capacities and resources through self exploration and discovery in the context of a safe and authentic therapeutic relationship.

My goal in working with clients is to help them know, understand, and have compassion for themselves, and in the case of couples and families, for each other as well. I provide a safe and nurturing environment where clients are free to express their thoughts and feelings, and I work to help them make sense of it all. My goal is to meet clients where they are, and give them the tools to get to where they want to be emotionally and psychologically.
