It is my belief that there are no life challenges, large or small , that cannot benefit from the therapeutic process. My approach to therapy is individually based to best fit my client so he/she can become confident in their ability to create achievable goals, make positive changes and sustain their progress throughout and after the therapeutic process. Cognitive-behavioral therapy, person centered and solution focused interventions allow for the most input from my clients with measurable results. I am also a strong believer in the benefits of humor and being more appreciative of our efforts to be the best version of ourselves.

Neuroscience is showing us what we have known instinctually forever; that it is through nurturing relationships that healing and human growth occurs. If we have been wounded in relationship or have unresolved trauma from the past, our fear and reactivity can prevent us from seeking and maintaining nurturing and safe connections with self and others. I am a licensed therapist in CA and WI and work online with residents of those two states only. My practice is fee for service only.

I work with clients in a wide variety of problem areas including sex and intimacy (either couples or individual therapy), anxiety and fear, weight and self-esteem, depression and bipolar, and trauma (sexual;combat), among others. My clients find me to be warm and caring, with a tendency to bring in humor. We work together to create achievable goals and take active steps to reach them. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who has spent most of my life in Northcentral Wisconsin including receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UW-Stevens Point. I then received my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and completed my clinical internship at Lakeview Specialty Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Waterford, Wisconsin.

Donnie utilizes a solution-focused and client-centered approach that supports clients in setting and reaching personalized, obtainable goals that improve their overall wellbeing. He also draws on evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to teach clients coping skills and help them develop a better understanding of the connections between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. With almost ten years of clinical practice, Donnie has abundant experience integrating these therapy modalities in a manner best suited to meet the needs of each client.

My focus might be short term counseling or longer term in-depth psychotherapy, depending on the needs of the client. In all cases, the client-therapist or counselor relationship quality is critical to real sustainable change. This relationship quality is created through empathy, genuiness and respect for the client and a genuine desire on my part to understand. When people feel known accurately and respected, that intangible magic begins to happen which leads to healing. Truth and love are definitely a part of that which leads us directly into the spiritual realm. Individual and couples therapy are my specialties.

As a marriage and family therapist, I greatly enjoy working with couples and families, especially those who struggle with communication. I love teaching people skills to help with conflict resolution. I also work with individuals ages 5 and up. I am passionate about helping those with trauma, grief/loss, adjustment, depression and anxiety. I work with many who struggle to have healthy boundaries and saying no. I am particularly interested in working with underserved and underrepresented populations, and strive to offer culturally sensitive and competent services. I am bilingual and can also offer services in Hmong.
