With over three decades of experience serving individuals, couples, and families, I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, trauma, and life transitions.
Navigating the various challenges of life can feel daunting. If you don't know already, you're brave to be making this first step towards finding a therapist. While talking to friends and family can help, having a safe, judgment-free, and private space to discuss the challenges you face can do wonders.

I believe in the power of cognitive therapy and solution focused therapy but most importantly the client/therapist relationship.
My mission is to serve my clients in a professionally caring manner that is respectful of each individuals situation. Have you ever gone to a treatment provider and felt that you weren't heard. This has happened to me many times and it is so frustrating. When someone is struggling with the stress of life finding someone to listen is difficult enough. Then add to that anxiety, depression, ADHD,obsessive thoughts, severe trauma or loss and the feeling of hopelessness and defeat can be almost overwhelming .This brings up the question"Does anyone really care?".

I work with couples to create greater security, openness, and connection.
Ideally, our early experiences of connection were secure, safe, accessible, and responsive and we developed an internal sense of ourselves as loveable, worthy, and deserving of getting our needs met. But what happens when this has not been our experience? Many of us have had to find ways to adapt and survive moments of disconnect, invalidation, or criticism. This can often mean we hold beliefs about ourselves that are limiting, worry that we have to hide or minimize parts of who we are, deny certain emotions, hustle for our worth, and/or build up layers of protection. I can support you to heal, connect and create lasting change.

My practice is dedicated to offering compassion and support for those who struggle with balancing all the roles and relationships that compete for their attention. Clients often ask me: “How can I hold myself together and still be there for my romantic partner, my career, my children, and my extended family? What about making time for fun and having friends?" Another question that comes up in counseling is about wounds from the past that drag a person down, no matter how hard they have tried to move forward and keep a “positive perspective.”

I see people who are depressed, anxious, dual diagnosis, going through life changes such as divorce, grief and spiritual crisis. I have a small specialty in couples counseling, especially from a spiritual perspective and informed by the work of Dr. John Gottman. I am a former Roman Catholic priest (10 yrs.) and have been a licensed psychotherapist for 22 years. It is my conviction that everyone has the seeds of healing already within them and with the proper help those seeds can bear fruit. Initial appointments are about one to two weeks out.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
