I am LGBTQ+ affirming and enjoy working with both individuals and couples.
Being a human is complicated and often overwhelming, but there is peace to be found amongst the chaos. If you find yourself in a difficult place, the decision to begin therapy is not an easy one, but it is a first step in offering yourself acceptance, love, and a path forward. I strive to create a safe space for you to process your unique life circumstances through an integrative and collaborative approach that values your perspectives, therapeutic goals, and evolving needs. Together, we can address difficulties such as trauma, anxiety, depression and suicidality, as well as life transitions and self-esteem concerns.

I use an integrative and holistic approach — drawing from Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, HRV Biofeedback, and my Level 1 Gottman Method Couples Therapy training, and other approaches.
I use my training and years of experience to build relationships with clients that produce wholeness and healing. I believe the care, trust, and honesty in the counseling relationship can help people move from surviving (maybe just barely) to thriving. I want my clients to experience renewal in their lives.

Every person has a unique experience and story that is worthy to be heard. I work primarily with adolescents and adults to help them find inner congruence and healing through a collaborative therapeutic relationship. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, sexual dysfunction, sexual trauma, PTSD, sexuality and gender exploration, and trauma. I consider it an honor to be allowed into another person's story and remind them that they are not alone as they seek healing.

My scope of practice includes individual therapy for children, adolescents, and adults, and couples and families.
"We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are." -Anais Nin per Talmudic origin. We must create things twice; once in our minds, and once articulated. When we think our thoughts, it lights up one part of the brain, and when we speak our thoughts, it lights up a different part of the brain. There is often something very different when we articulate our thoughts, and they change in some way. Talking out these experiences in a narrative way assists us in making sense of how we feel about those experiences.

Some of the issues I specialize in are trauma, eating disorder, depression, anxiety, sexuality issues, life transitions, relationship issues, and identity.
Stressed? Tired? Can’t seem to get ahead? Don't like yourself? Finding that sense of security and strength in the midst of changes, challenges, and relationships is difficult, and some feel that taking time to stop and reflect is impossible; yet often it is one of the most important steps in moving forward or getting unstuck. Stopping and working with a trained therapist can help facilitate change in meaningful and impactful ways. It can also help avoid a complete life derailment. I believe that the work I do with my clients is sacred, which is why I employee some of the most up to date and clinically validated treatment techniques.

I believe that people make sense within their context. And so, I am mindful of context - cultural background, attachment style, family and relationship history, etc. I enjoy the process of listening and attending, especially to those whose voices may feel unheard, such as teens, women, and trauma survivors. My work is informed by an integrative and embodied approach, utilizing various family system theories and trauma-informed interventions. Through establishing a sound therapeutic relationship and safe environment, I am hopeful that your difficult emotions will "make sense," and a story of resilience and compassion will be heard.

I work well with kids, teens, families, couples, and adults who are struggling and desiring to build a skill set of tools to aid them through life.
Sometimes life is more challenging than we are able to handle without outside help and guidance. "What do I do to feel better?" and "How do I fix this?" are questions you may find yourself asking. Having the right tools to manage and overcome life’s obstacles is essential. I am here to help you build the tool set to handle these oppositions. Having a double master's in School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling, I have acquired a rare skill set designed to reach individuals and families both in the school system and out. I am eager to be a part of your healing journey.

I believe the relationship we will form will be the most vital part of our work together.
You’re at a point where being perfect doesn’t feel attainable anymore. You’ve been trying to live up to the expectations set before you, and you still feel like you’re failing and letting those who matter down. You’ve gotten so lost in these identities that you’re unsure who you are and what matters to you. Maybe you’re wondering if life will always feel exhausting and empty. You're ready to stop the cycle of anxiety and shame because it’s overwhelming. You’re ready to love yourself and navigate how to set boundaries in your relationships.

Some of the more common problems addressed here are high anxiety, dysphoria/depression, attention deficit issues, post-traumatic stress, brain/memory dysfunction, relationship issues, communication issues, sadness/grief, and recovery from major illness or injury.
I provide counseling and consultative services. With the help of my colleague, Mark Shively, we also provide training using biofeedback technology. As a counselor, my role is to listen, discern strengths and vulnerabilities, and invite growth/advancement from those placing trust in my care. As a consultant, I strive to provide fair/impartial answers (in the manner of a scientist) to posed questions. Cognitive-behavioral training can address many thought patterns, behaviors and physiological states (such as stress).

Mental illnesses, addictions and relationship problems - I have found that these three arenas are where most of our pain centers. And also where so much work has been done. You've gotten this far, and I'd consider it a privilege to fight the next battle alongside you.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
