Hi, I'm Damaris Johnson! I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I specialize in treating individuals, premarital couples and new moms. As a graduate of Mercer University School of Medicine with a Masters degree in Family Therapy, I am currently serving as the Clinical Director at The Walk of Life Counseling Center. Additionally, I am a Prepare-Enrich Facilitator as well as a Certified Trainer for counselors in the community who seek to provide premarital/marital counseling. Assisting new mothers and premarital couples is very important to me; I offer concierge services outside of normal business hours when available.

I graduated from the University of South Dakota with my Master of Social Work degree. Throughout my career I have enjoyed working with a variety of clients and have experience with children, adolescents and adults in group, couples and individual therapy. My career has given me the opportunity to work in both inpatient and outpatient settings along with providing telehealth therapy services to individuals across SD.

I am able to build rapport quickly, making the client feel comfortable, and can assist in guiding the client in meeting their goals. I bring a unique experience as I look at the whole person to explore what all is, or has impacted them. We don't focus on disease management but strive to focus on overall wellness-mind, body, and soul. I believe Forrest Gump said it best when he stated "Life is like a box of chocolates"-as life can be sweet and enjoyable; but it can also be bitter and painful. It can definitely send us on emotional roller coaster rides that are not fun. My approach to working with mental health is to meet people where they are and provide individualized care. It's about building and fostering relationships for growth. Similar to the analogy of chocolates, I believe every individual is unique and present with their own life experiences.
