I believe that your struggles can be an opportunity for deep learning and growth because they serve to expose the real issues that have gone unresolved within yourself and in your relationship/marriage.
As a Licensed Professional Therapist, my passion is to help you to get to a place where you can feel safe and satisfied with your life. As your therapist I will be dedicated to helping you to improve the quality of your life by providing an atmosphere where you can feel comfortable to share your thoughts and concerns. I have been practicing for more than 20 years. Also, as the mother of 2 beautiful daughters and the mother of a blended family, I have real life experience to draw from. I can empathize with your suffering, isolation, confusion and the judgement from others close to you (specially those in faith-based community)

I provide therapy for individuals, couples, families, adults and children. I have worked with many different clients providing the support needed for change. My experience at various social service agencies, at a child and family clinic; and in a college clinic has given me the opportunity to work with many adults, children, adolescents and families. I find my training in marriage and family therapy is particularly helpful for my clients in that it helps individuals better understand their relationships with themselves and others in their life. I regularly look at the systemic process in relationships, and at attachment issues.

Just add another item to the never-ending “to-do list”- you’ll have to find a way to get it done. Being a mother and partner is so much harder than you ever expected, and most of the time you feel like you’re going it alone. You can’t seem to find the right words to ask for help. Not to mention the pressure society puts on us to do it all. So focused on tasks & your family’s needs, but wondering where you lost yourself as a person along the way. You know to be the best mom and partner you can you need to find time for yourself, you just aren’t sure how to get there on your own. Or how to drop the overwhelm, guilt, & shame for good.

Whether individual or couples counseling, I provide a holistic approach to your treatment that embodies your emotional and psychological growth.
For many women who are considering therapy, it's not easy taking the first step. You may have felt the weight of carrying your issues on your own for so long and have no idea where to begin. You may have sought therapy previously and felt your issues were being minimized, your "voice" was not being heard by your provider, or you were unable to maintain a sense of authenticity due to significant cultural barriers. If you can identify with either of these scenarios, I created Monroe Clinical Counseling for women like you. In this space, your truth, your voice, and your authenticity are valued. You are priority.

I view the therapeutic alliance as a collaborative and empowering process best accomplished when the client feels safe to explore and challenge current mal-adaptive cognitive and behavioral patterns. This is accomplished through a variety of therapeutic techniques grounded in Cognitive Behavioral, Reality, and Rogerian dispositions. Evenings preferred.

I began my career in the Human Services field over 24 years ago as a contracted social worker under the Department of Human Services, working with families, couples, and individuals including teenagers and emerging adults in Treatment Foster Care and Juvenile Probation system. It is through these programs that I enhanced my knowledge and skills as a counselor providing emotional assistance to those that struggle with barriers and challenges in life. I have learned just how impactful past and present traumatic experiences affect and shape the individual.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
