My goal is to provide a supportive environment and to establish a working relationship with individuals and families seeking strategies to improve their overall sense of well-being and daily functioning. In our first appointment, we will work to identify current concerns and learn skills to help address stress, anxiety, mood, motivation, problem solving and improved communication. Over time, I hope that clients will gain insight into the origins of current issues, develop an array of useful coping and interpersonal skills and more adaptive thought processes to create lasting and positive changes.

I work with folks who identify outside of the box and don't fit into the "norm." My practice specializes in serving the queer community, folks in larger bodies, and those who find themselves to be “other.” I specialize in working with individuals, families and relationship systems (couples etc). I strive to maintain empathy, compassion, and openness with each of the clients I work with. I value a collaborative relationship that allows my clients to steer treatment in the direction most useful to them.

I also enjoy working with couples and polyamorous partners seeking loving bonds.
Licensed in CA and OR. A comfortable alliance with a skilled therapist can help you to bring greater awareness and agency to choices you make. Perhaps fulfillment comes from having looked into yourself with curiosity, compassion and support. Bringing yourself forward in your own way and expressing yourself can be challenging in many ways... cultural, political and social inequities, childhood injuries, confusing relationships, difficulties that began with your ancestors, stressful current circumstances. Sometimes being present in yourself as well as in the world with compassion is the most poignant challenge of all.

Those who choose to work with me will engage in developing a different relationship with themselves by developing relational skills and experiences therapeutically that can be used throughout life.
Life can be hard. We depend on others to live the life we have. Health in life is a combination of internal and external supports. I can help you explore your internal supports and identify those external supports which help you with trauma, stress, loss. My approach works as an external support to your internal support as you walk through difficult times and situations. I work with individuals, couples, families, adults, adolescents and children. I meet you in the situation and time you find your self by providing support for acceptance of where you are and support towards where you want to be.

Many things can divert a once happy relationship.
Falling in love is addictive. It is your brain on cocaine. Until, it isn't. At first, you couldn't picture months of arguing. Even an affair, broken trust. Perhaps you never imagined hiding away, secretly texting a colleague - s/he listens to you. Perhaps you just want the miscommunication and storming out of the room to end.

30 years as a coach/psychotherapist with adults, children, families and couples provide me with a unique background and skill set.
EVERYONE NEEDS A COACH. Everyone faces challenges for which they are not adequately prepared at some point in life: an executive leadership position, a career change or retirement, a creative block, difficulties forming or sustaining a romantic relationship, the complexities of parenting, divorce, or disability. We usually expect ourselves to just do whatever needs to be done, on our own. That attitude often leads to unanticipated hardships and difficulties, which could be avoided by seeking the appropriate counsel.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
