I am also passionate about working with couples looking to reengage intimacy.
I want to start off by congratulating you on taking steps toward wholeness and wellness. If you are exploring therapy for the first time, welcome. If you have engaged in therapy in the past and are looking for a new experience, welcome. If you have no idea what you are looking for, welcome! Often times, clients that I work with decide to engage, or rengage, in therapy because an issue surfaced in their life that they could not navigate on their own. Other times, clients feel satisfied in their lives, and are looking to explore the hidden crevices of their psyche for more optimal relationships.

My training, interests, and experience have led me to specialize in treating clients with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and stress reactions.
There's little doubt that seeking assistance to deal with a life problem or even to expand upon our strengths can be a daunting task. While taking this step does require courage, I believe that my task is to make this step an easier one for my clients. My focus is to build a strong relationship with clients while providing the necessary therapeutic support to make life changes easier and to increase their confidence that seeking help is exactly the right thing to do.

I work with families, couples or individuals irrespective of diagnosis or the presenting problem. I'm interested in the person, not the label. From my perspective, psychotherapy is a collaboration. It has been referred to as the "talking cure" because it heals through conversation. Putting troubling thoughts, emotions, and memories into words enables them to be felt and understood more deeply, to be borne with greater resilience, and to facilitate wiser choices. And, the privacy, boundaries, empathy, and safety of the therapeutic relationship can enable even the most shameful and frightening feelings to be faced and worked through.

I provide therapy to individuals, couples & families drawing on a wide array of therapeutic models.
"YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND ANOTHER PERSON'S EXPERIENCE UNTIL YOU WALK A MILE IN THEIR SHOES." That's especially true regarding the thoughts and feelings that often surround deeply personal issues. My practice is informed by my own life experiences as well as a nuanced understanding of the complexity of human nature. Together we will build the degree of trust and rapport necessary for you to: identify maladaptive patterns, challenge negative beliefs, gain insight into past and present events and most importantly, use this information to create permanent positive change in your relationships and the way you think and feel about yourself.

I am a licensed professional counselor and have been in practice for 10 years. I use evidenced based practices to address trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, and relationship challenges. Most unhealthy coping behaviors were survival skills. These skills were beneficial but now interfere with joy and connection. There is relief in exploring outdated coping strategies and replacing with current strategies that facilitate authenticity, closeness, and peace. You can request a new client consultation from my website.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
