My hope for our work together is that in the context of a safe relationship, founded on teamwork and respect, you can learn a new way of understanding yourself, and your story with an attitude of love and respect.
Finding a therapist you can trust is tough! The best way to get a feel for what working together might look like is to give me a call. We can explore what our work together might look like and you can get a feel for my style and therapeutic approach. My hope is always to collaborate with you, to better understand your experience and to empower you to make changes in ways that bring freedom and change. Therapy is never easy, but it can be one of the most important investments you can make in your life, and your future.

Life is inevitably painful, and none of us make it through without incurring some wounds along the way. Some wounds are fresh, reflective of present life circumstances – a recent loss, strained relationship, a multitude of stress and worries. Other wounds are old and have been carried a long time, rooted in past experiences and impacting us today through ongoing patterns of behavior and ways of relating to self and others. Left unattended, these wounds (new or old) may lead to a number of distressing symptoms and much suffering. Like physical wounds, emotional wounds need to be seen and acknowledged, cleaned and dressed to heal.

Offering individual & couple coaching for adults struggling with life and relationship unmanageable stress. Relationship Reboot: Do You Feel Like You’re Fighting About the Same Things in Your Relationship? Some couples feel like the good times are fantastic, but the bad times are a disaster. They quickly feel triggered due to built-up resentment. The romance and connection can fade over time and be replaced with frustration and distance. Many couples face challenges communicating effectively. Some may feel betrayed or lose trust in their partner. I provide an open safe space to get to the root of chronic gridlock problems.

Whether you are coming for couples, family, or individual therapy, I will work with you on identifying all the factors in your system (family, school, work, etc.
The process of committing to therapy can seem daunting. Adding to an already busy calendar and finding a therapist you can trust is all too overwhelming. Questions also arise: Are my problems too big to handle? And will it even be worth it? My commitment to you is to ease this process. Therapy is not a one size fits all. Instead, I view therapy as a collaboration between therapist and client, meeting you were you are at to help you gain a deeper understanding of your experience and make lasting change. Ultimately, you are the expert of your life and I consider it the highest of privileges to be trusted with your personal experience.

The kind of client I most enjoy working with is an individual or group of persons who are able to be open to change and continue to stay open to the collaborative and creative process. Some clients that I have had the best outcomes with learned to trust their decision to stay focused on their healing and prioritized it. I have a passion for using therapy as a catalyst for transformative change.

In my practice I provide a comforting relaxing non-judgmental atmosphere in which to process thoughts and feelings at your own pace. I also believe you are the "boss" because I don't live in your head or walk in your shoes. I will make suggestions as to how to cope, challenge, manage thoughts, and feelings while improving relationships through the process. I will never tell you what to do because it is up for you to decide as to what works best. My time with you will be focused on how I can help you become the best version of yourself.

My areas of focus include relationships (couples counseling, divorce, and family dynamics), life transitions and uncertainty, parenting, school and work challenges, and the anxiety and depression that often accompany these and other issues.
I believe that every individual, couple, and family has a story that they can change by gaining insight into their situation and making different choices. I partner with my clients to help them explore the options and tools available to them. Having spent years in the corporate and nonprofit arenas before embarking on my second career as a counselor, I bring real-world knowledge to my sessions. I am genuine with my clients, and sessions with me are just as likely to include laughter as they are tears. I treat each client with respect while asking tough questions that lead to productive conversations.

My ideal client is an individual who is open to working as a team and benefiting from a therapeutic relationship in which honesty, accountability, and empathy are paramount. While a client’s concerns are unique and personal, there is nothing they cannot overcome through effective therapeutic interventions and a highly-trained and relatable clinician.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
