I am a clinical social worker with experience working with individuals, couples, and families, assisting people with many concerns including relationship challenges, improving communication skills, dealing with anxiety, depression, and grief. I also have experience working with sexual and domestic violence abusers and victims. I am certified in EMDR Therapy, Level I Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and have taken many trainings in IFS and DBT. I believe trauma is stored in the mind as well as the body. I believe it is important to use current resources and develop new resources to deal with the challenges that appear in our path.

I specialize in helping individuals & couples cope with anxiety, relationship disconnection, self worth issues, people pleasing behaviors, &/or unresolved past pain. A common reason individuals come to me is because they want help being more authentic or addressing something unresolved from their past. Maybe your story is one of being caught between 2 worlds - what the world or family wants from you and who you want to be? Possibly you are used to supporting others and want someone who will listen to you for a change? Or this strategy of pushing aside issues from your past is leaving you exhausted and breaking down at times.

I specialize in relationship issues for both individuals and couples.
You never thought you would feel like this, but here you are. You're feeling lost and uncertain of yourself, your relationships, even your feelings. You don't know what direction you are heading or where you should go. You've tried to explain your feelings to those closest to you, but being vulnerable is some scary shit. It's all so exhausting. All you know is that you are ready to make some changes. You are tired of feeling stuck and the changes might be scary, but nothing is as frightening as staying like this. You haven't felt like yourself in a long time and trying to find that version of you on your own isn't working right now.

My specialty is helping couples and individuals navigate relationships that have become difficult.
Somehow, you’ve taken on more than your fair share again. How does this always seem to happen? It’s like they don’t notice- or care. It would be really nice to feel appreciated for a change, but you can’t remember the last time you even got so much as a thank you. Maybe things would be different if you could just communicate better… but how? Last time you tried that it turned into an argument and you walked away feeling frustrated, guilty and selfish for even saying anything. After all, aren’t you just being overly sensitive? “Just get over it”, you tell yourself for the hundredth time…

Pain can be inevitable. Maybe you have hurt from a relationship, experienced trauma, are battling addiction, or are struggling with your sense of purpose. Maybe you struggle with low self esteem, body image, anxiety, or depression. Maybe you feel stuck. Choosing to be vulnerable by telling your story and having the courage to write new chapters may be the most courageous thing you ever do. It may also be the very thing that helps you find the help and healing you’re looking for.

I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to work with many individuals and couples.
I think I know why you are here. You are looking at my profile so I would bet you feel anxious, frustrated, maybe like you are “going crazy”! You are always stressed out and cannot shut your mind down. Maybe you are having difficulties with your partner. They just do not “hear” you! Sex is not what it used to be. All you do is argue and when you argue you do not accomplish anything except hurting each other. I get it! One good thing is you are trying to get help. The other good thing is I can help you. Give me a call or text 419.277.4355.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
