I believe we are transformed by relationship as much as insight.
Most of us, at some point, feel disappointed with life. Maybe we expected it to be more. More joy. More peace. More connection with others. More meaning. We’re not looking for perfection, but is this all there is? You may label this feeling grief, anxiety, loneliness, depression, addiction, or you may be unable to give it a name. It may surface in you individually, or in your relationships. That nagging sense of discontent serves as a wake up call and it deserves attention. This is the purpose of my practice.

I have a heart for serving adults, adolescents, couples and families dealing with significant life issues such as the death of a loved one, chronic illness or pain, issues stemming from past trauma, parenting children with special needs, or managing chronic mental health conditions such as ADHD, anxiety and depression. I believe that it is helpful when a therapist has a personal understanding of the areas in which they specialize. I have personal experience with all of these circumstances, allowing me a level of empathy and insight that may not be possible otherwise.

I specialize in trauma disorders, treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, OCD, codependency and relationship issues.
All talked out? Many of my clients have decades of experience in therapy, yet have found little relief from their anxiety or depression. I work with adults and couples who are ready to go deeper into the unconscious mind to heal old wounds, change outdated patterns and cultivate a compassionate relationship with themselves. My clients have great insight, and are ready to finally embody and feel what they cognitively know to be true: “I am safe. I am loveable. I am enough.” Deeply knowing yourself is the greatest gift you can give your heart. Learning to regulate your nervous system is a close second.

Each person comes to individual therapy for numerous and very honest reasons, despite how overwhelmed and powerless they are feeling. It is okay to not know what to do or know what is next. Deep down, I believe that each one of us has the innate wisdom to know themselves and to know what to do next, under optimal conditions. Couples caught in a criticize-withdraw cycle are often doing what their survival instincts tell them to do. I am also highly trained in couples counseling and marriage counseling through emotionally focused therapy (EFT). Marital therapy and individual counseling need guidance from an empathic but neutral party.

I've supported clients facing depression, anxiety, relationship hurdles, trauma, and coping with grief and loss.
I appreciate your willingness to honor yourself by looking for a new therapist. It's completely normal to feel that not every aspect of your life is sorted out, and acknowledging this vulnerability is a sign of resilience. Taking the initiative to seek support is a major step, as a Black Woman, I fully understand the challenges associated with this decision. My commitment to this work is fueled by a desire to promote inclusivity, particularly towards minorities and marginalized communities. I am eager to work with you on your path to healing. Your journey matters, and I am here to support you in taking those crucial next steps.

I have specific experience working with the following populations: adolescent and adult women, couples, corporate professionals, multicultural, offender/ex-offender, Christians, spiritual/religious.
What we know for sure is that life is beautifully complex. No one is exempt from new challenges, life transitions, pain or conflict. While past experiences influence the present, what happens to you does not have to dictate your overall quality of life. Emotional wellness requires dedicated attention and a commitment to being and doing better. When we begin to see challenges as purposeful moments urging us to learn, heal, grow and evolve, we can begin to accept, and even honor, our circumstances. How do you do that? Well, my goal is to empower you by providing guidance, tools and insights to lead an emotionally healthy life.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
