In this setting, I have helped more acutely afflicted patients find their way to recovery using stress management/distress tolerance skills, mindfulness and establishing a caring and empathic relationship.
I work with my clients using a variety of approaches in a collaborative effort to help them reach their defined goals. Together we focus on wellness, self-responsibility and empowerment. For over 35 years I have helped individuals who are struggling with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, marital conflict and any other issues contributing to distress. Because I have been in private practice for decades, I have had the benefit of having past clients keeping me informed of their progress, sharing their joys and triumphs through the years.

Loving and loving well takes courage, but even the most courageous couples don't have it all figured out. That’s why I’m here: to support couples as they take greater risks to develop (and re-develop) trust, gain understanding, deepen intimacy, and restore connection. I understand the unique challenges of relationships and know how deep hurt and regret impact connection. I also know the long-lasting positive impacts that therapy can have on couples deciding whether to stay together, how to get unstuck, what to do to stop fighting, and how to forgive.

I enjoy working holistically with individuals, from teens to older adults, as well as couples/relationships to enhance communication skills and deepen connections. I utilize mindfulness, attachment, and self-compassionate approaches and find a great deal of benefit from incorporating creative interventions, such as the use of art and horticultural therapies. I'm an EMDRIA approved EMDR therapist and also have advanced training in Exposure and Response Prevention therapy, which I most often use in conjunction with ACT, to treat OCD and anxiety symptoms. Additionally, I am a gender specialist with advanced training through WPATH.

As a Collaborative Divorce Coach, I assist couples in moving towards an amicable settlement resolution through learning to manage their emotions, communicate more effectively, and work more cooperatively together as a couple and as parents.
I consider myself a compassionate, skilled and intuitive therapist with 20+ year's experience in clinical and educational settings. My approach to therapy blends traditional methods (Cognitive/Behavioral, Family Therapy) with alternative methodologies (Psychodrama, Gestalt, Humanistic, Creative Arts Therapies and Advanced Integrative Therapy-a transpersonal energy psychology particularly beneficial for clients with trauma induced issues). I also bring a life-long appreciation of Eastern Philosophies to my practice. As an extension to working with couples in crisis, I am a member of the Mid-Jersey Collaborative Law Alliance (www.mjcla.org). In this capacity, I function as a Certified Divorce Coach/Child Specialist.

Some of my areas of special interest and expertise include working with couples rebuilding trust and intimacy, sexual abuse recovery, PTSD, unresolved grief/dpression, and addictions.
I have been a licensed psychologist in Pennsylvania since 2003, and practicing in the Bucks County area as a Christian therapist since 1991. I have experience dealing with a wide range of issues and working with children, adolescents, and adults, in addition to teaching at the graduate level. I get tremendous joy from seeing people take their troubling symptoms, the panic attacks, the depressed mood, the self-defeating patterns of relating, and use them to build the self-understanding and character strength necessary to boldly love and experience the kind of intimacy in relationships they never thought possible.

We all struggle at times; emotional and psychological anguish are part of the human condition. And yet these challenges can be reframed as an indication that change may be helpful. I am a strong believer in the profound gift that mental health support can confer and that seeking therapeutic support is an act of self-empowerment and strength. I have a private practice in Princeton, NJ where I specialize in the treatment of anxiety and depressive disorders, LGBTQIA+ issues, parenting concerns, family systems and eating disorders. In my private practice I work with preadolescents, adolescents, adults, couples and families.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
