I work to help you address the painful challenges you are facing in your life, whether it be in your relationships, your work, or internally with yourself. With depression, self-esteem worries, anxiety and panic, separation and loss, sexual/intimacy conflicts, work/achievement difficulties, parenting problems or addictions, my efforts with you are to use understanding and problem-solving to find relief and direction. I teach and train other mental health professionals, and emphasize the active collaboration needed to bring about change and growth.

I believe that therapy is most effective when provided in an authentic and nonjudgmental setting between two equals. Through my practice I have found that many issues can be alleviated or improved by making behavioral changes and sessions tend toward these present-oriented approaches, such as Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy (changing unhelpful thoughts and behaviors), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (helping to regulate out-of-control emotions), and Neurofeedback (also called EEG Biofeedback, this form of brain training is helpful for many issues including but not limited to anxiety, depression, attention problems).

We, as human beings, have our habitual way to think, feel, and behave which may not always help us cope well. We may feel stuck in the past, fearful for the unknown future, and not being able to be present in the moment. We are not able to change the past and we cannot live in the future because future is delusional and non-existent. The present is the only time that we can do something to make a change and feel better. We do not need to deal with a struggle once we stop fighting against it and begin to practice acceptance and let go of the attachment to our habitual pattern so as to respond with a mindful and non-judgmental mind.

I am an interactive therapist, interested in helping clients reduce symptoms of distress, usually anxiety or depression and explore with them the roots of their distress. I find whether it is addiction, eating disorders, chronic pain, or straight forward relationship issues, understanding the "why" as well as the "how" to fix it, helps the problem and symptoms subside. I also do a lot of work on self identity and helping people learn to value themselves regardless of whether they receive social validation from others.
