I believe that play is the work of the child and that change can happen within a positive relationship.
I have been working with children and their families for the past 10 years. I specialize in working with children with one or more mental health diagnoses, such as ASD, anxiety, depression, or mood disorders, as well as helping their parents/guardians or family members with how to best care for their child. I aim to work collaboratively with families, schools, and other providers in order to instill change. I work individually with adults, with a varying degree of need, including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. I also work individually with parents, working on their own mental health.

For over 20 years I have been providing patients with a safe space that is mutually created together through a trusting connection built to hold whatever you bring into therapy. My focus is on longer term therapy that is aimed at achieving real and lasting change in one's life. It is also my experience that once many of the initial issues are worked through, whether they are older emotional wounds or current relationship issues, that ultimately what will emerge are your own unique qualities that will allow you to flourish in all aspects of your life.

Your outcome from the therapeutic process is highly dependent upon the relationship you co-create with the therapist.
Success has been defined as happiness in our professional and personal lives. Sometimes we struggle in one or both areas, hindered by feelings of disappointment, frustration, anger or sadness. Things can be different; it is possible to live a meaningful, happy life. In psychotherapy and psychoanalysis you have the opportunity to look closely at your life. The intention of this thoughtful examination is to reduce the discrepancy between the life you have and the life you want.

I see patients searching for meaning and fulfillment in their lives, or wrestling with existential issues of loneliness, a sense of loss or mild to profound disconnection. Sometimes this coincides with anxiety, depression, trauma, difficulty relating to others, or a lack of comfort living in their own body.

The ideal client would finally be open to change and hope to have better interpersonal relationships. This can be a client who struggles with their anxiety, possibly has poor attachment styles, and struggles with holding meaningful relationships (romantic, platonic, familial). Their goals would be identifying healthy boundaries and healthy responses, increasing effective communication skills, and identifying past relationships/present relationships in order to identify patterns/habits.

Whether working with a family, individual, and/or couples, I believe in a relational process in which finding a therapist that is a "good fit" as the groundwork for a supportive, transformative process. I believe that every individual has the ability to examine their life's journey and own their story; all while strengthening self compassion and working to navigate who and how to be in relationships. This along with growing to know, understand and accept oneself. Stepping into the therapeutic process is the first movement towards self discovery and growth.

I have more than 15 years of experience providing coaching, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and psychotherapy to a diverse group of individuals, couples, and groups.
Life has a way of challenging core beliefs about ourselves, our relationships, and our environment. Perhaps you find yourself experiencing anxiety, depression, feelings of stagnation, or of aloneness. Maybe your relationships or work life are not satisfying, or perhaps you would like to know yourself better in order to live more fully. I would like to work with you not only to identify and treat problems, but also to build on your strengths. My goal is to provide a safe, genuinely caring, and non-judgmental environment for effective self-exploration.

I work with individuals, couples, and families to help them to utilize their full potential and to achieve more satisfying, meaningful relationships.
Welcome. I'm glad you made the decision to seek out help and begin the process of feeling better. For many, this first step is difficult. It's important to find a therapist who is a good match in terms of style and therapeutic approach. My style of therapy is a collaborative process in which we work together to identify what you want your life to be like and how best to make that happen. I work to provide a nonjudgmental space in which clients are better able to discuss difficult topics, keeping an open mind throughout the therapy process.

**Unfortunately I am currently at capacity and am unable to accept new client referrals.** Each of us come to junctures in our lives that make us question our ability or our will to push forward. Often we struggle to find others we feel can help us along our way, who we trust to hold and respect our pain. Seeking support in therapy can be the first step to re-gaining a sense of control, a value of one's own self-worth, and a hope in the possibility of change. I am a person-centered clinical social worker who values the honesty, exploration, reflection, challenge, balance, and care that a therapeutic relationship can provide.

I help couples and individuals stuck in unsatisfying, repetitive patterns find clarity and regain momentum. I have a warm, collaborative and direct style. My work is informed by years of postgraduate training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, a form of treatment that aims to fully resolve underlying causes of our distress. Additionally, I draw on the latest research in neuroscience and attachment theory, all of which allow me to formulate an approach that will be most effective for your particular circumstances.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
