There is no "ideal client" in my eyes. I think the most important part of this experience is finding the right therapeutic relationship. If your needs fall into one of my specialties, great. If not, that is okay too. Feel free to reach out and we can chat about what you are wanting out of services and I promise to be transparent if I think we would be a good fit. My goal is not to find the "ideal client" but instead help in any way that I can. If that means finding someone else, I am good with that and will help you find someone that would benefit you more than myself.

I believe it is important to meet the client where they currently are to develop a strong therapeutic relationship. I strive to provide a warm and nurturing environment. I believe it is important to provide evidence-based approaches while providing appropriate psychoeducation so clients understand why they are learning these tools. You deserve to feel accepted with where you are right now. I believe in setting small, realistic goals to build self-confidence and help you feel more in control.

I work with individuals, couples, and families through a variety of challenges (including but not limited to) low self-esteem or self-worth, communication struggles, feelings of anxiety, depression, or disconnection, couple concerns, pre-marital framework, career, identity, or lifestyle transitions, and living and/or loving in the time of COVID.
I’m an open and affirming therapist, always striving toward cultural competency while living into cultural humility. I see and honor you, the client, with acceptance and grace, while collaborating with you to facilitate the growth and change you seek. I can imagine it may not feel like it, but I believe you are ultimately the expert in your own life, and through conversation we can discover and uncover the answers lying in wait for you to move forward differently.

I have a passion to journey with couples who seek to restore love and trust in their life and in their relationship(s). When we experience violations to our sense of identity and safety we experience real pain and confusion. It is possible for all of us to find peace and be grounded in the truth of who we are, and discover new ways to act within our daily life and decision making. I especially have an interest in journeying with couples struggling with communication (i.e. decision making), passion and attachment, intimacy, life transitions, and conflict (i.e. anger, shame, control, infidelity, addiction, trauma).

Transformation occurs when you choose to be intentional and commit to change, even when the journey is unclear or unknown. Approaching change through therapy, unearths pathways to healing. Within the therapy process, my goal is to create an open-minded, safe, and non- judgmental space, that compassionately addresses your concerns. I help adult individuals, couples, and groups who are seeking to redefine adverse perceptions, improve poor boundaries, behavior, coping skills and practices, discover optimal functioning levels, explore the ways one experiences connection, identity, intimacy, and relationships that bring them joy.

I provide therapy for concerns such as depression, anxiety, stage-of-life transitions, and relationship difficulties.

I am a clinical psychologist, providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and groups. My approach is collaborative, and together we'll uncover new perspectives for understanding and managing difficulties that hold you back. The word psychotherapist is greek and means "Healer of the Soul". When you come into my office, I will not label you with anxiety, depression, addiction or any other disorder. You will hear me ask questions like: How is your addiction protecting you from pain? What do you not feel when depression numbs you? Once you witness and heal the wounds of your soul (you can also call it trauma), the symptoms (the 'disorder') can disappear. If you are interested in having a deeper understanding and awareness of your emotions, I will help you to develop a relationship with yourself that is characterized by curiosity, respect and compassion.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
