I also offer couples counseling for dating or married couples struggling with communication and connection issues, dealing with the fallout from infidelity, or simply wanting to strengthen their relationship.
Therapy is about more than just symptom relief (though that's important)--it's also about learning to create connection with yourself and with others. Part of my job to help you develop skills to use with issues that get in your way the most. I’d also love to help you figure out how to feel like yourself again and restore your relationships to a place of wholeness. My goal is to help you get to a place where you feel connected to yourself and to those most important to you. My hope is that our work will help you feel free from the things that are keeping you stuck and give you a new vision for your life.

I have studied Sex therapy and I have experience helping couples and individuals aged 18 and over.
I can help you gain insight into yourself, clarify your goals, find purpose and gain relief from mental and sexual health challenges. Humor can be a vital part of therapy, too, as it gives us moments of relief and can bring connection. I enjoy discussing how important religion is to clients and how religion and sexuality can blend really well together. Unfortunately, I do not take: Medicaid, Medicare, TriWest, or TriCare. The best way to reach me is email.

With couples, I implement the Gottman method.
My primary passion/skill is in working with couples, individuals, those with anxiety. I am HOPE focused & love building a safe & welcoming space for my clients. I'll help you walk towards the abundant life/marriage God desires for you. I believe people do the best they can. I would be honored to walk beside you & give you the tools you are in need of whether it's communication, conflict, or intimacy. For those with anxiety, I teach you how to not be afraid of anxiety & give you tools to work with it instead of against it. We use biblical/therapeutic techniques to learn how to truly take thoughts captive & not allow anxiety to rule.

Currently accepting Emergency Responders (Police officers, Fire Fighters, and Paramedics) and Military Members for individual and couples counseling. My passion is supporting those who support and serve our local, national and global community, with an approach that is direct, educational, and humorous (Okay, attempts at humor.) From 2008-2014 I worked across the US, Europe and Japan, as a rotational counselor supporting military. It was a difficult choice to leave that work, but since my return to Idaho, I've really appreciated still being able to serve by supporting our Idaho's Emergency Responder community and Military.

I work with individuals, couples, and groups who believe personal change is possible and valuable in their lives. I use an emotion focused approach, as put forth in the work of Dr. Les Greenberg, and have received formal training in Dr. Sue Johnson's Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples. I believe that people are agents of their own positive change, and that many are unaware of how emotions relate to their thoughts and behavior. My clinical practice has taught me to respect the experience, worldview, and value system of each individual without imposing my own. I am an LGBTQ+ ally.

I help individuals, couples, and families address issues around relationships, gender identity, sexual orientation, and overall sexual health.
Welcome! I know that taking your first steps into finding a therapist can seem like a daunting task. Every therapist is slightly different, so the most important thing that you can do is to find a therapist who is right for you. Personally, I believe that therapy works best when we are able to work together in a friendly, collaborative environment, where you can feel seen, heard, and known. I also believe that there is no “one size fits all” model, and therefore I tailor my therapy sessions to each client's individual needs.

If that means learning to accept things as they are, learning new ways of thinking or behaving, or getting rid of unhelpful thoughts or habits, I believe we can do those things. I have experience working with issues such as depression, anxiety, major life transitions, anger issues, relationship issues (romantic partner, family, workplace, etc), sexual issues, grief, and spiritual/faith-based issues among others.

Perhaps all the things you were doing before to keep your emotions in check, make your partner happy, or ignore your past are no longer working. Maybe you’ve read the self-help books and listened to scores of podcasts, but you cannot seem to escape your personal hell. If you're a man, maybe you're at a crossroads with what it means to be manly. If you're going through faith deconstruction, perhaps you feel sad and angry, but nobody within or outside the church seems to understand. Or maybe your relationship is close to failure and you are at a loss how to save it. But now you find yourself here, ready to do something different.

You blew up at your partner again last night! You promised yourself you wouldn't let your anger take over AGAIN, it did. Feelings of guilt and shame fill your body as you see your partner turn away from you. After countless conversations with them you set intentions to make yourself STOP Yesterday, you felt the tension and anger rising; you even thought "push it down". The extra puff and drink after work, the remedy to ease it away, didn't work. This pattern is disturbing, but not as disturbing as the anxiety and depression you try to keep at bay. You know life would be better if you haven't found a way to do that.

Do you often please others at the expense of yourself? Perhaps you keep repeating unhealthy relationship patterns - searching for proof of your worthiness in relationships outside of yourself. How loud is your inner critic? Are you hiding guilt and shame behind masks of happiness? Are you indecisive - valuing others' opinions over your own? Do you often feel overwhelmed? You are not alone. Many of my clients feel this way, and I can tell you that there is hope. There is another way to live. You are strong and resilient, even if it doesn't feel like it right now. This life can be amazing. I can help you remember how to heal yourself.

I firmly believe finding the right therapist is crucial in a successful journey to better mental health and wellness. A dynamic therapeutic relationship is one of the most influential factors for successful transformations. I know the process of finding a good match can be cumbersome and frequently prevents folks from seeking help they desperately need. I have been recognized for my ability to build rapport with my clients in a warm, inviting, and safe environment. This allows my clients to feel safe while being able to comfortably discuss difficult and sensitive information, while reaching their goals and finding serenity.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
