I specialize in working with trauma, anxiety, depression and relationship issues. I help clients gain insight into what is getting in their way and to develop healthier coping strategies. I also work extensively with those struggling with addictions, including alcoholism and sexual addictions and compulsive internet pornography use. I have successfully helped break the interference of addictions and compulsions to lead healthier, more productive lives. In addition, I often work with spouses/partners who are struggling with the impact (and trauma) of these addictions on themselves and their relationships.

They are often experiencing relationship difficulties or suffering from the disease of addiction.
I work with clients from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, who have all come to a shared realization: that their way of living is no longer working for them. Whether they are struggling with addiction or depression or find themselves experiencing relationship difficulties, they all aspire to something new; something more. Together we identify the nature of their particular dissatisfaction, discover how they got there, and develop a more desirable and sustainable reality. I believe that my role is to be a nonjudgmental companion to my clients on their unique journey of self-discovery and profound change.

Sometimes we worry that coming to therapy means something is wrong. I believe it means something is right. Often, my clients find themselves facing more decisions and questions about who they are and what they want out of their lives and relationships than ever before. My clients experience a range of concerns including depression, anxiety, career challenges, loneliness, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, adjusting to life changes, difficult family dynamics, and generally feeling overwhelmed by life. This is an important time when many people ask themselves: How can I feel like what I do matters?

In addition to EMDR, I also help clients overcome issues related to anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and relationship conflict utilizing Mindfulness based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (mbCBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and attachment informed Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT).
A lot of our psychological pain is rooted in past traumatic experiences. When we experience trauma, memories of these events remain with us as unprocessed memories, affecting our moods, behaviors, sense of self, and our body. As a Holistic Psychotherapist specializing in EMDR, I empower my clients to create impactful change in their lives by helping them gain insight into themselves/others and overcome their limiting beliefs through processing these difficult memories. Healing from trauma can be hard work but I am with my clients every step of the way and provide them tthem the skills and resources that they need.

I strive to be a collaborative partner who helps you recognize and build on your own strengths, treat yourself with more self-compassion, and figure out the next steps you need to take to build a better life for yourself.
Currently accepting new clients! Entering a new phase of your career? Feeling stuck at work or at home? About to make a big change in your life? Feeling overwhelmed in our current political environment (e.g. experiencing "election stress disorder")? Our personal lives and careers are full of inflection points, where choices we make and events that occur to us can change the course of our life in impactful ways. Inflection points are often stressful, but also provide opportunities to examine our identities, our relationships, and how we want to live our lives. You don’t have to navigate these moments without support.

My primary focus is on helping couples and individuals with sexual issues. In working with couples, I find dissatisfaction with partnered sex is often linked to deeper relationship difficulties and the two can be intertwined. In other instances, the therapeutic focus is primarily on enhancing technique and increasing desire rather than improving the relationship. I also work individually with women to eliminate barriers to sexual wellness and increase acceptance. I enjoy working with gay, lesbian, and heterosexual clients and have respect for sexual fluidity and variance in erotic interest.

In my practice I am guided by the belief that change is possible and that every person has the capacity for healthy growth and development but may at times need help in accessing inner resources for positive change. I believe a therapist-client relationship that is characterized by empathy, curiosity, acceptance and caring is what facilitates the therapeutic process. I aim to provide an environment where my clients feel safe and free to explore their feelings, thoughts, needs and goals - an environment where we can work together at understanding what is keeping them from living a more fulfilling life.

In addition to treating anxiety, depression, and relationship issues, I have experience in substance use counseling and enjoy working with clients who are concerned about their substance use.
I specialize in adult psychotherapy, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, substance use, trauma, relationships, and LGBTQ issues. It can be hard to experience hope when we feel stuck in old patterns of thinking and feeling about life, ourselves, and our relationships. This can lead to feelings of stress, confusion, unhappiness, or disappointment. I work to help individuals and couples to examine these patterns and to explore and experiment with new ways of thinking and acting, which in turn can have dramatic impact on how they are feeling.

You and your partner feel stuck and don’t know how to make things better. Arguments can go in circles and never feel resolved. Sometimes the smallest disagreement can escalate quickly. You don’t know why it has to be this hard when both of you want to feel understood and cared for. Maybe major life transitions and changes have made it hard to feel as connected as you used to. You miss feeling close, and like they have your back. Talking about your issues doesn’t seem to help, but avoiding them isn’t working either.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
