I offer psychotherapy for adolescents, adults, couples, parents, & families.
I love my work and feel incredibly fortunate to have formed so many meaningful therapeutic relationships. It is a privilege to travel with clients as they emerge from suffering and utilize the strengths they have found and the skills they have learned to achieve balance and ultimately, their life goals. The relationship between therapist and client is a real, equalitarian relationship built on honesty, respect, and collaboration. As we get to know each other, you will find that I am warm, genuine, non-judgmental, flexible, direct, and irreverent. I have a good sense of humor and believe that laughter is an important part of healing.

With a warm concern and desire to establish a mutual working relationship, I help you to explore what is bothering you and affecting your ability to thrive.
It is not easy to keep mentally on track. Has the Covid 19 pandemic and all of the enormous fears generated with health, work, the economic future of the country put you on a high stress level? These difficulties or adjustment issues can add up and seriously effect your ability to function and your quality of life. I have had a great deal of experience working with adults suffering from anxiety, panic, low self-esteem, depression, addiction, and work related issues. I also enjoy working with late teen and college kids and the adjustments they face. Call me and we can discuss working together towards achieving mental wellness.

Navigating life’s challenges is no easy pursuit. At times we don’t feel we have the skills or resources to cope successfully, especially without support. My clients are individuals, couples and families seeking therapy for anxiety, depression, grief, trauma as well as relationship challenges and difficulty associated with life transitions, communication struggles, (co)parenting skills. As a relational therapist I believe that every person, and relationship, has the potential for growth and positive change and I want you to feel empowered to take the steps toward the life you want to be living.

Waitlist for new clients
I think the relationship between client and therapist is critical for therapy to work for you.
People seek therapy for many reasons. Lifelong struggles or new life events that leave you feeling overwhelmed, sad or stuck might have you considering therapy. Were you or someone in your life diagnosed with a life changing illness? Have you been coping with your sadness and stress by drinking too much? Or have you been struggling with an internal conflict that is leaving you with many different feelings such as loneliness, depression, or anxiety? Therapy can help you find peace and provide long lasting benefits to you and your relationships.

The people I work with seek therapy for all the emotional turmoil life throws at you: pressures to perform, anxiety, marriage and premarital distress, trouble sleeping and changes in mood. Others I see come to therapy with a broader wish to understand their own nature, to see themselves and timeworn habits more clearly. In each case, my goal is not to simply fix problems in your life or marriage, but rather to help you gain control when it seems like the world around you is spinning. For couples, my goal is to move your relationship from distress to security, understanding and mutual trust.

Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, or relationship issues, interpersonal psychotherapy can provide a safe and supportive environment in which to explore the roots of your difficulties and find new ways of relating to yourself and others.
I work collaboratively with my patients to explore the ways in which their past experiences have shaped their current relationships, both with themselves and with others. In therapy, we will pay close attention to the dynamics of our own relationship, as well as to patterns of behavior and communication that may be holding you back in other areas of your life. By developing greater self-awareness and insight into these patterns, you can begin to break free of old patterns and forge more meaningful and fulfilling connections with others.

If you’re ready for a thought-partner with whom you can go anywhere, try me.
The quest for clarity, for contentment is exhausting and that "Life Is Good" banner taunts us mercilessly. Often, life isn't good - no matter how good we appear to others. Talking about our hopes, dreams, expectations and disappointments can be hard, but it's the best way to make better sense of our desire and the emotionality that necessarily comes with it.

I work with a lot of couples in this scenario.
You’re exhausted from the daily grind and some life transitions that haven't been easy. Your expectations for emotional and physical intimacy with your partner aren’t panning out the way you thought they would. In the beginning, it was easy to put a lot of energy and attention into your relationship because of all the excitement and anticipation. But after the honeymoon phase, you got into a rhythm of work, chores, and maybe kids too. Now communication is breaking down quickly and you have no idea how to get close again. Nothing you try is working. You need professional expertise that works and you need it now!

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
