I welcome LGBT/queer couples, people in nontraditional relationships, individuals exploring gender and sexual identity, and anyone engaged in confronting racism and oppression.
Life. Love. Work. You want to live life fully--to thrive, not just survive. But it's not so simple. There are daily stresses and disappointments that over time can turn into anxiety, depression. You're struggling in your relationships, or with your lack of them. Maybe your early years were not the easiest, and you carry the scars. Perhaps society treats you differently, making it hard to thrive, get ahead, be comfortable with yourself. But you have reached a turning point: you are ready for a change. You decide you need help. Where to turn? I know this journey, I've been on my own version of it. I can help you find your way.

Are you an emerging professional experiencing anxiety, relationship distress, or dissociation? Are you often hypervigilant, insecure or disconnected from your body? Do you feel you can't trust yourself? Are you aware of self-defeating behaviors, but can't seem to change them? You may have had a "late-in-life" diagnosis, realized your gender or even childhood weren’t what you thought they were. You may have had a recent breakup, job change, newborn or Saturn Return. Wherever you’re at, you want long-lasting change and a Right-Fit Therapist. Someone who is not only Neurodivergent-affirming, but who is Neurodivergent themself.

For couples counseling, therapy is a time to explore patterns, emotions and unique dynamics from a safe and supportive position.
If you feel stuck by your past, if you worry about the future, if you second guess what steps to take in the present, help is available. Through a supportive and collaborative therapeutic relationship, it is possible to achieve a greater sense of emotional well-being, increased self-awareness, better intimate relationships and a more resilient state of emotional health. Using a modern and mindful approach to therapy, issues related to panic attacks, addictions, anxiety, depression and dysfunctional relationships are processed from a supportive, strengths-based position that helps facilitate insight and change.

Seeking out therapy is a very heroic action in and of itself, perhaps your first proactive step into redefining your sense of self, creating a new life story, and taking a leap into the direction of self-care. If you are reading this, you may be in a state of uncertainty, or perhaps connected more deeply than you would like to be to the effects of depression, anxiety, or your daily life situations. Maybe, you are wrestling in a relationship with someone you love; perhaps, finding the words to communicate who you are and how you feel may seem unattainable and challenging at best.

Whether you are dealing with difficult internal dynamics and patterns; relationship conflict; trauma; or intergenerational dynamics that seem intractable, it is never to late to develop new ways of being and relating that transform suffering into healing.
At points in life we all find ourselves in a place of not knowing. Not knowing how to manage feelings, thoughts, and experiences; not knowing what to do about or how to recover from life events; not knowing how to be with others or with the difficulties that arise from being alive and human. I view therapy as a tool for healing and healing as something that begins when we learn how to listen to and relate to ourselves differently in times of uncertainty. I help individuals, couples and families of diverse backgrounds and identities transform how they relate to themselves and to others in a way that opens the door for healing.

I work with LGBTQ+ individuals and couples using use an integrative approach that invites consent and collaboration.
Many people come to therapy after reaching a certain breaking point. You've tried everything that's "supposed" to help - yoga, meditation, books, journaling. Maybe you seem to have it all together on the outside, but still feel unhappy, or stuck. If only you could just change -fill in the blank- everything would be better. The growth of social media has impacted how we view ourselves and community, leading to comparison and insecurity. We are conditioned through capitalism to feel somehow "never enough." We may feel behind our peers in dating, career, or friendships - creating isolation and uncertainty about what we want in life.

Patients often tell me how they feel frustrated, hopeless, lost, and exhausted by the time they seek out a therapist. Many folks in my practice are Asian American adults who experience painful conflicts within their family of origin that lead to separation, emotional distance, or even estrangement. I also work with individuals and couples who feel stuck in frustrating repetitive patterns in their thoughts and behaviors, negatively impacting their ability to find enjoyment in their lives and in their relationships. Therapy can give you a space to speak freely and listen to yourself in new and different ways.

I work with people who have been told they're “too sensitive,” “too much,” feel misunderstood, or feel alienated from the mainstream–people looking for a therapist who "gets it." You are not too intense, too sensitive, or too "out there." The whole of you is welcome with me! I specialize in both individual and couples therapy. Individuals who work with me are often struggling with intense emotions; couples who work with me are often stuck in loops of conflict or suffering from breakdowns in trust. I enthusiastically welcome activists, LGBTQIA+, poly + kinky folks, artists + dreamers, and highly sensitive + emotionally intense types.

I believe in the inherent worthiness of all human beings. Unfortunately, each of us likely have experiences in our lives that teach us that there is something wrong with who we at the core. Psychotherapy is a space for remembering and unearthing the self-love and gifts that each of us come into this life possessing. Through relating authentically, being compassionately curious with whatever arises, and developing a deeper relationship with the body’s intelligence, I hope to help my clients become more expressed in who they truly are, build lasting, meaningful relationships and connect more deeply to their purpose for being alive.

Our primary focus is on helping our clients heal their relationships with the external (family, partners, lovers, friends) and, most importantly, with the internal (that’s right, your relationship with yourself!).
The Center for Relational Therapy was born out of the desire to create a space for the weirdos, outcasts, misfits, and nonconformists that is owned and operated by fellow weirdos, outcasts, misfits, and nonconformists. Grounded in a deep commitment to creating an inclusive and affirming practice, we offer therapeutic services to folks who fall outside of the margins.

I primarily work with individuals, couples and families whom desire to have healthier relationships and want a greater sense of satisfaction from life.
Making this call, or looking for a therapist in general can be a scary thing. Some people have never been to counseling and don't know what to expect. Others have had negative experiences with people they've confided in the past that make them hesitant to put themselves out there again. I am here to make it as easy for you as possible. I will walk you through the process, and answer any questions along the way. I know that trust is earned, and our relationship should be one of high trust, and I'm ready to earn yours. I believe every person is different and deserves individualized counseling based on their own personal needs.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
