I specialize in working with couples and individuals. With my background in law and my passion for mental health, I help lawyers and busy professionals navigate relationship issues, overcome burnout, and tackle work-related stress head-on. Maybe it’s the pressure-cooker environment at work, where deadlines loom like storm clouds. Or perhaps it’s the all-too-familiar dance of miscommunication and misunderstandings in your relationship, leaving you both feeling like you're stuck in a tango with two left feet. I can help you tap into your inner strength, set boundaries, and confidently navigate life’s twists and turns.

As a licensed marriage and family therapist, my work in both individual and relationship therapy is through the lens of family systems: What informs current relationships, behavior patterns, and sense of well-being? How can we change patterns of thought and behavior that may no longer work for us? .
I approach therapy as an active, collaborative process. I aim to provide a safe, compassionate and intelligent place to freely explore thoughts, feelings and experiences, take risks to work through past issues and current concerns, and identify and utilize core strengths to grow--and create more fulfilling lives and relationships. Years of clinical research and treatment with post-deployed combat veterans informs my practice: I believe that regardless of circumstances, we possess inherent strengths that, when harnessed, can move us toward wholeness, healing and extraordinary growth as individuals and in connection with others.

Much of my experience has been working with individuals and couples who are new to therapy or have only previously tried medications for mood management.
The goal of my practice is to help individuals and families navigate life's stressors using mindfulness and acceptance-based treatments that are supported by research. Whether it is adjusting to a new phase in life, coping with a major health issue, or feeling stuck in unhealthy patterns, I aim to help my clients gain a deeper understanding of their struggles, respond to their experience with compassion, and reduce unhelpful ways of reacting so that they can navigate whatever challenges arise.

Relationships are problematic. You’re up late at night researching your partner’s behavior online – learning new terms like narcissist abuse, gaslighting, boundaries, and how to be happy. You fantasize this search will make your partner say, “Thank you for this enlightening information. Now I understand my alcoholic mother and chaotic childhood caused my behavior in relationships.” Realistically, you know that late-night research got you nowhere. You might think, “I will find a therapist and get to the roots of my personality, why I act the way I do, and work on myself.” Unfortunately, this is not likely to happen without a plan.

You deserve to feel seen and live a life of authenticity without the stress and anxiety of being afraid to show others who you are or who you want to be. So often we find ourselves holding back our needs to ensure the needs of others are being met but this pattern leaves many of us feeling lonely and isolated in our relationships. Therapy can be a way to help you achieve the authenticity you are seeking through processing thoughts and feelings that might be getting in your way of showing up for yourself.

Do you have an irrational, gut feeling you can't seem to shake? Maybe something telling you that you're not good enough, unsafe, powerless...? Sometimes, difficult experiences in our past can cloud how we live in and see the present. We find ourselves overreacting to things or people, feeling anxious or worthless. Our head can tell us we are being irrational, but that doesn't change the feeling. One of my goals is in helping you re-process the experiences in your life that push these feelings, so you not only know that you're okay - you feel it.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
