I enjoy working with adults, teens, children, and couples, addressing depression, anxiety, transitional age issues, relationship issues, domestic violence, trauma and PTSD, low self-esteem, procrastination, and problematic behaviors.
Life is difficult, and even the strongest and the most intelligent people need help at times. You should be proud of any steps you take towards challenging your fears and self-growth. Therapy is a process that offers a unique opportunity for transformation and growth by guiding you to reflect on your issues, challenge your fears, and develop a greater awareness of what is causing your problems. Overall this is what can help you heal and grow.

I approach the practice of therapy as a mutual relationship, one that is based on integrity and trust.
Do you feel like something inside is broken? Do you feel less-than-whole emotionally, physically or in relationships and want to learn to put the pieces together to create your optimal life? Do you feel like your own worst enemy, tearing yourself down with negative self-talk? This is where I come in. Working together as your guide, I help you learn the skills, insights and strategies so that when future situations arrive, you will learn to trust yourself to confront challenges mindfully and compassionately.

We will get to know each other before determining which type of therapy will work for you, as every person, relationship, and situation is unique.
Hi, I'm Jennifer. I became a therapist by first being introduced to therapy as a client myself. I had difficulty finding a good fit and felt I could be an effective therapist myself. Are you feeling anxious about the prospect of beginning or resuming therapy? Maybe you fear judgment in telling your story to someone else? I found it exhausting to retell my story each time I began with a new therapist, but I eventually found a good fit and was able to get the treatment I needed. I use a nonjudgmental stance in my approach in order to optimize healing and allow for personal growth in a safe space.

I have a special interest in working with couples and families and in doing Dream Work with my individual clients. Much of the therapeutic work I do is based on the theories of Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell, & James Hillman. However, I do balance my practice using other therapeutic techniques from other theorists as well. It is not so important for me to apply a certain theory or my own beliefs on a client but instead it is my intention to really understand my clients' own personal beliefs and expectations of therapy. I specialize in working with teens, adults, couples and families, meeting each person and situation individually.
People who enter therapy are the bravest people in the world. The only difference between you and everyone else is that they are choosing to suffer in silence (or not so much silence), and you have decided that you deserve better. You want more. You may have some obstacles in your way, but with a little help there will be better road up ahead. My job is to walk with you, sometimes offering tools that I have picked up along the way, sometimes just listening, always being present. Please click on my website link below for more about me and how I work.

As a marriage and family therapist my primary goal in therapy is to help individuals, couples and families achieve their goals in therapy. Whether it is restoring trust and harmony in relationships, successfully moving past addictive cycles, finding a deeper sense of purpose and satisfaction in life, working through trauma, or recovering from depression, there is support and hope for you. I use methodologies rooted in science and validated by research. I believe that it is through authentic connection to others that we grow in self awareness and emotional health.

Give yourself permission to be vulnerable by putting yourself first. Negative and highly-critical self-talk, especially for gay men, is the root of many of our problems and addictions. You may feel “less-than” others, think poorly of yourself, or are unsure how to get your needs met. I can help you to shed light on where this inner-critic is coming from, how to quiet it, and help you rebuild your relationship with self/others. Next, we can develop tools to manage anxiety and depression, embrace your sexuality, develop a healthier relationship to sex/porn, heal infidelity, integrate love and sex, or improve your relationships.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
