As a therapist, I value and create a safe, nurturing, and empathic environment for individuals, couples, and families to explore underlying issues to relationship problems, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and addictions. I am trained & certified in EMDR, which helps a person to quickly move through recent and past trauma and successfully overcome symptoms related to PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). We'll work together to help you find a healthy balance between body, mind, and emotions that allow for success in relationships and work, self-empowerment, and to live a life full of hope, meaning, and purpose.

Are you constantly walking on eggshells in your relationship? Have you tried to communicate your concerns but it seems to end in an argument? It can feel exhausting to repeat a negative communication cycle where the problem isn't resolved and you feel emotional connection and intimacy are blocked. There is hope, I work with individuals and couples to explore their relationship patterns and transform their connection to each other. In relationships we often find a mirror for our personal growth and development. Adolescent struggles, family conflict and children who experience learning challenges are other areas of focus in my work.

I provide therapy/counseling for adults, teens, and couples.
For me, the connection between client and therapist, as well as creating emotionally safety, are two critical ingredients in a successful therapy experience. We will collaborate to identify the specific areas about which you want assistance; such as, relationship challenges, every -day stressors, trauma and grief therapy, and mood regulation skills — to reduce anxiety and depression. Oftentimes we struggle with an inaccurate narrative, filled with shame and self-critical thoughts. Despite feeling stuck in negative patterns, we can rewrite that script and develop greater resilience.

Getting pregnant and starting a family isn’t as easy as you had hoped. You and your partner may be faced with infertility, pregnancy loss and the difficult choices involved in assisted reproductive therapies. You don’t know if anyone really understands what you’re experiencing—grief, financial strain, anxiety and hopelessness—which can make you feel so isolated. The uncertainty and stress may be taking a toll on your relationships, with your partner or others. Or you had a traumatic birth experience or have postpartum mood issues that aren't what you pictured. The emotional rollercoaster is exhausting, and you need more support.

I specialize working with couples who are stuck or in gridlock.
The goal to good therapy work is in creating a safe therapeutic relationship of deep listening and empathy. Empathy is a strange and powerful thing. There is no script. There is no right way or wrong way to do it. It's simply deep listening, holding space, withholding judgement, emotionally connecting, and communicating that incredibly healing message of, "You are not not alone." Take some time to heal. Give me a call and let's begin to re-write your story.

And ultimately to heal their relationship with themselves.
I believe that well-being is a right not a privilege and that everyone is hungry for meaning, purpose and connection. The absence of these things can lead to disorder and dysfunction. The greatest gift of being a therapist is helping people of all ages let go of unhealthy coping skills and cultivate an authentic, full life. In my practice, I focus on the specific needs and goals of the individual, couple or family. Through story, intervention, tools, and feedback I help my clients address the issues that are preventing them from moving forward in their lives and ultimately to reclaim their true selves.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
