We are drawn to what is familiar. Most of us learned as children that we had to behave and think in certain ways to survive in our given environments. This knowledge became our childhood coping skills. We utilize these coping skills, which may no longer be effective in our adult relationships and may need to be reevaluated. In addition, we may find that we are depressed, anxious or repeatedly choosing the "wrong" partner, because the familiarity feels safe. I have an empathic understanding of these issues and will help you to explore and move forward so that you can enjoy more happiness in life, with loving, healthy relationships.

Loss and grief can come from so many different areas of life and for so many different reasons. Whether it comes from death, lack of heath, divorce, break up of a relationship, miscarriage, infertility, pet loss…, the feeling can be overwhelming and debilitating. In this state, you can feel extremely isolated, misunderstood, lonely and unable to respond to life as you once did. It can be absolutely brutal.

Getting pregnant and starting a family isn’t as easy as you had hoped. You and your partner may be faced with infertility, pregnancy loss and the difficult choices involved in assisted reproductive therapies. You don’t know if anyone really understands what you’re experiencing—grief, financial strain, anxiety and hopelessness—which can make you feel so isolated. The uncertainty and stress may be taking a toll on your relationships, with your partner or others. Or you had a traumatic birth experience or have postpartum mood issues that aren't what you pictured. The emotional rollercoaster is exhausting, and you need more support.

Having been trained in Systems, I love couples and families but am always honored to serve an individual when the fit is right.
Are you nursing a heartbreak post-split? Considering divorce? When we are hurting emotionally, it’s near impossible to see things clearly. Sometimes, it is the things right in front of us that can be most difficult to look at. And whether we want to admit it or not, friends and family have a vested interest. That’s where I come in..my 20+ years working as a practicing clinician have taught me that although no one else can be the expert on you, sometimes an “expert” third party can see your picture with greater clarity, if for no other reason then I’m in no way attached to the outcome (except for your happiness, of course).

I provide therapy/counseling for adults, teens, and couples.
For me, the connection between client and therapist, as well as creating emotionally safety, are two critical ingredients in a successful therapy experience. We will collaborate to identify the specific areas about which you want assistance; such as, relationship challenges, every -day stressors, trauma and grief therapy, and mood regulation skills — to reduce anxiety and depression. Oftentimes we struggle with an inaccurate narrative, filled with shame and self-critical thoughts. Despite feeling stuck in negative patterns, we can rewrite that script and develop greater resilience.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
