I believe in the transformative power of a safe, supportive therapy relationship informed by the synergy between a client's wisdom and clinician's expertise.
Maybe coming to therapy is an easy, intuitive next step for you. You know and trust yourself to find just the right counselor. You know what you need from therapy to support your relationships, career/life satisfaction, self-care needs, or trauma recovery. I trust your inner wisdom and can’t wait to collaborate with you. Or, maybe you’re more tentative about this whole “therapy” thing. Life may have taught you that trust is precious–that reaching out for support could be dangerous. You may have even gotten the message not to believe in or advocate for yourself. Well, this might be a surprise: I also trust *your* inner wisdom.

My specialities include working with adolescents, teenagers, couples, and adults who have concerns related to anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, identity, and trauma.
I have my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Alabama A&M University and I am EMDR trained. During my professional experience, I have had the opportunity to support clients ranging from adolescents to adults. My main focus is on the therapeutic relationship with the client. I believe creating a safe space for the client and therapist to connect cultivates trust and makes the client feel validated in their journey. As a member of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, I can understand the challenges that comes with navigating the process of trying to best understand yourself and explore what makes you feel the most comfortable.

He has worked extensively with individuals, couples, and families during some of life's hardest moments to create understanding, refresh and restore connection to oneself and partner, and to regain a sense of purpose.
Reaching out can be the hardest step in making a change, but you are not alone. Times in our lives can be painful, confusing, and difficult to navigate, which can leave us feeling conflicted, anxious, grieving, and having an overwhelming sense of being stuck. Know there is hope. I will journey with you to help find relief from inner turmoil while also incorporating practical solutions. Being trained as an MFT and EMDR Therapist equips me to address emotional distress, PTSD, trauma, stress, anxiety, relationships, and couples issues, among others with clients from all backgrounds to provide individualized care.

I work with individuals, and couples.
My approach to therapy is like a tool box. I believe we need all types of tools to create, build, and work on things in our life. I want to help you create your toolbox into a way that can be helpful for you. I believe in utilizing holistic approaches, and person-centered services with clients. We are all diverse as humans and I don’t believe there is “one size fits all.” I value building relationships with my clients that can foster curiosity to explore the challenges they have faced and how we can navigate this journey together to achieve their goals.

I believe that the most important part of therapy is the relationship between the client and therapist. My goal as your therapist is to first and foremost build a relationship with you that allows you to feel safe and comfortable opening up about areas of life that can be difficult to talk about. My therapeutic approach encourages you to use your own strengths to help reach your goals, and to uncover your full potential. I believe that one of the biggest steps in the therapeutic process is just being willing to show up.

The people I usually work with are individuals and couples who are facing important life or relationship challenges and have tried the typical strategies for improvement or making changes. I work best with those who want to take an honest and thorough look at his / her / their functioning and set in motion pragmatic steps toward sustaining a genuinely better life. While conflict and various forms of emotionality are a normal part of life, when these experiences negatively affect one's capacity to have a successful, enjoyable or fulfilling life, it is important to consider other avenues of support.

I work with individuals, couples, and families who have experienced loss, life changes, and challenges with grief, self-esteem, identity, relationship problems, illness, and chronic pain, dual diagnoses and mental illness.
Cycles of Life Counseling has added teletherapy services. Protect and care for your mental health and well-being while you protect and care for your physical health. My treatment philosophy is that people want to feel good and live with purpose. Sometimes though, life can feel too big to manage. Sometimes we feel stuck or unable to adjust when "life happens", We may have not learned a better way to cope or live well with or through challenges. Add to that, frustration and disappointment over feeling this way and we feel even worse. Let's consider another way for you ‘to be’ in the world, to live more fully, with emotional freedom.

I’m committed to being an active partner on your healing journey, and I won’t shy away from the hard things or offer empty platitudes.
Have you tried traditional talk therapy before but are now looking for something that goes deeper? Maybe life has forced you to slow down due to the loss of a loved one or another significant change. Perhaps you’ve just come to realize that despite all this go-go-go, you actually feel like you’re still lacking direction, purpose, and deep connection with yourself and those close to you. You don’t want to have to “rehash” the past or revisit every detail of what you’ve experienced, but you know that life can feel different than it does today. You believe long-term change is possible…you just need some help getting there.

My passion is serving couples, families and women. I find I have the most success in supporting women (emphasis on ages 18- 30's), and the unique challenges we face. If you are struggling with negative self talk, difficulty putting yourself first and saying "no" to others, or other difficulties creating anxiety.. I'm here to listen & support. Regarding success in serving couples and families (LGBTQIA+ affirming), I take an emotionally focused approach and ground in communication skills. I will work with you to find the emotional root of the issues you see resurfacing, so cycles are put to an end & you feel at ease.

The day starts and self-doubt kicks in. Finding the energy to do what you need for others and yourself feels impossible. You're juggling so many roles as spouse, parent, child, business owner, friend, you name it and somehow have lost sight of yourself in the constant pressures of daily life. This leaves you riddled at times with anxiety, sadness, unpredicted tears- ultimately feeling depleted and angry that this cycle doesn't end. Then the secret thoughts begin: "Maybe I'm not good enough or worthy? I have no control. I should have known better. I've failed again..." Communicating these feelings is hard, leaving you stuck.

I have been practicing for over 10 years, treating couples and individuals with an array of issues including depression, relationship problems, trauma, and life transitions.
It's normal to feel anxious when going through big life transitions. Or perhaps you are feeling low because a new relationship has triggered an old wound. In either case, a safe space to process your pain points can help you heal. I am committed to providing a nonjudgemental environment for my clients, to foster growth. I work with both men and women, though I especially enjoy working with young women navigating transitions in adulthood. I am passionate about helping individuals and couples get "unstuck" and find connection and meaning in their lives. My ultimate goal is for you to gain confidence in your own decision-making.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
